About the Opportunity

Our team is seeking up to four warm, reliable, student‑centered Tutors to support early literacy development at our BTWA ES campus through our partnership with Reading Partners. Our Literacy tutors will deliver structured, one‑on‑one and/or small group reading lessons using a structured, scripted curriculum designed to build foundational reading skills.


This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about literacy, committed to educational equity, and energized by building meaningful relationships with our young learners. Tutors work closely with the Site Coordinator, School Administration, Elevate leadership and external partners staff to ensure students receive consistent, high‑quality instruction aligned to the Reading Partners’ program.


This opportunity allows tutors to:

  1. Build strong relationships with students and support their reading confidence
  2. Learn and apply structured, evidence‑based literacy practices
  3. Receive coaching and feedback in a supportive environment
  4. Contribute to a mission‑driven belonging and academic school community focused on student growth


Key Responsibilities of the Role

As a Literacy Tutor at Elevate/BTWA ES, you will be primarily responsible for:

Structured Literacy Instruction

  1. Deliver one-on-one tutoring sessions using the Reading Partners scripted curriculum with fidelity.
  2. Support students in building foundational reading skills, including phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
  3. Create a warm, predictable, and encouraging learning environment that promotes confidence and engagement.
  4. Reinforce lesson routines, instructional prompts, and pacing as outlined in the curriculum.

Student Engagement and Relationship-Building

  1. Build strong, trusting relationships with students to support motivation, belonging, and consistent participation.
  2. Use positive reinforcement, culturally responsive practices, and developmentally appropriate strategies.
  3. Support students in setting goals, celebrating progress, and developing reading stamina.
  4. Maintain a calm, patient, and student-centered presence throughout all sessions.

Session Preparation and Materials Management

  1. Arrive prepared for each session with required materials, lesson plans, and student folders.
  2. Set up and reset the tutoring space to ensure a clean, organized, and welcoming environment.
  3. Ensure all instructional materials are handled with care and returned to their designated locations.
  4. Communicate promptly with the Site Coordinator if materials are missing or need replenishment.

Documentation, Attendance, and Data Tracking

  1. Record session notes, attendance, and dosage completion accurately and consistently.
  2. Support assessment administration as directed by the Site Coordinator.
  3. Flag student concerns, progress updates, or instructional needs in a timely manner.
  4. Maintain confidentiality and uphold all data-handling expectations.

Program Fidelity and Professionalism

  1. Follow all Reading Partners instructional protocols, lesson structures, and pacing expectations.
  2. Uphold BTWA’s mission, values, and professional standards in all interactions.
  3. Maintain punctuality, reliability, and consistent attendance to ensure students receive their full dosage.
  4. Communicate respectfully and professionally with students, staff, and families.

Collaboration and Coaching

  1. Receive coaching and feedback from the Site Coordinator with openness and a growth mindset.
  2. Ask clarifying questions when unsure about curriculum steps or instructional routines.
  3. Participate in brief check-ins, debriefs, or training sessions as needed.
  4. Support a positive, collaborative team culture among tutors.

Culture & Student Experience Alignment

  1. Cultivate a structured, welcoming, and joyful tutoring environment that reflects the values of Booker T. Washington Academy and Elevate Charter Schools.
  2. Build strong, authentic relationships with students to support engagement, motivation, and consistent participation.
  3. Partner with families to reinforce attendance expectations, share progress updates, and strengthen the home‑school connection.
  4. Model professionalism, warmth, and high expectations in all interactions with students, families, tutors, and staff.
  5. Promote a positive team culture among tutors, encouraging collaboration, shared ownership, and a collective commitment to student growth.

Required Qualifications

  1. Experience working with elementary‑aged students in school settings, youth programs, after‑school programs, or community‑based environments.

  3. Reliability, punctuality, and consistency in maintaining scheduled tutoring hours.
  4. Model of professionalism and a commitment to excellence in service of our students and community.
  5. Comfort following structured routines, scripted lessons, and clear instructional protocols.
  6. Ability to build trusting relationships with students and support their engagement and motivation.
  7. Commitment to fostering a positive, welcoming, and student‑centered environment aligned with the values of Booker T. Washington Academy and Elevate Charter Schools.
  8. Openness to receiving coaching and feedback from the Site Coordinator and Reading Partners staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience tutoring, mentoring, or supporting students in literacy‑focused settings.
  2. Familiarity with foundational reading skills or early literacy development.
  3. Interest in education, youth development, social work, or related fields
  4. Comfort using basic digital tools for attendance, documentation, or communication.
  5. Experience working within mission‑driven educational organizations such as Elevate Charter Schools.
  6. Bilingual or multilingual skills (Spanish preferred).
  7. Familiarity with culturally responsive practices or restorative approaches.
  8. Experience supporting diverse learners, including English Learners and students with IEPs.

Compensation and Benefits

At Elevate Charter Schools, we are committed to ensuring fair and equitable compensation based on the skills and qualifications required for the role. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role.


The hourly rate for the Literacy Tutor position is up to $20.00 per hour (9 hours per week), commensurate with experience and aligned to our organizational compensation scale. Final compensation may be adjusted based on relevant experience and qualifications.
