The New York Post is seeking a dynamic, enterprising Reporter (Sun-Thurs, 10am-6pm EST) based in Florida to join our National News Desk. This is a prime opportunity for an experienced reporter who thrives on breaking news and enterprise reporting, isn’t afraid to knock on doors, and is eager to bring local stories to the national stage.

Whether you’re covering major breaking news, uncovering untold stories, or digging deep into local issues that resonate nationwide, we want a reporter who will dig into the facts, take risks, and chase the truth. The ideal candidate will have a knack for spotting under-the-radar local stories which will appeal to a national audience, be able to provide on-the-scene reporting when big news breaks and write it all in The Post’s unique voice.

Note: This role will be based in Florida and will be remote except for fieldwork when news breaks and in-person reporting is required.

Responsibilities:

1. Pitch, develop, and execute enterprise stories that drive national conversation, with a special focus on Florida and the southeastern U.S.
2. Be on the ground for breaking news, providing timely, accurate, and engaging coverage that meets the fast-paced demands of digital media.
3. Reframe local stories to make them relevant to a national audience, highlighting unique angles that others might miss.
4. Build and cultivate local sources to ensure exclusive, original reporting that sets us apart from the competition.
5. Leverage investigative skills to dig into court documents, conduct phone interviews, knock on doors, and ask tough questions that uncover hidden story angles.
6. Collaborate closely with editors and fellow reporters to brainstorm story ideas, ensuring comprehensive and multifaceted coverage.
7. Write in a fast, sharp, clean, and engaging style that aligns with The Post’s unique voice, blending factual reporting with an eye for compelling narratives.
8. Monitor trends, identify emerging stories, and pursue potential viral angles.
9. Be prepared to travel on short notice for breaking news and field reporting assignments.
10. Flexibility to work nights and weekends as required to meet deadlines and cover urgent stories.

Requirements:

1. At least 5 years of reporting experience at a national or large local news organization.
2. A proven track record of generating, pitching, and executing stories that capture national attention.
3. Ability to work independently and remotely but also collaborate with teams to develop comprehensive and engaging coverage.
4. Expertise in uncovering stories by diving into public records, conducting interviews, and asking probing questions to gather critical information.
5. Demonstrated ability to cover breaking news and provide in-the-field reporting on tight deadlines.
6. A passion for finding the big story, no matter how hidden or obscure.
7. Ability to adapt quickly and work effectively under pressure, particularly in fast-paced, high-stakes situations.
8. A deep understanding of how to craft stories for a national audience, with an eye for what will resonate across diverse readers.
9. Comfortable working remotely and taking initiative in managing your schedule and workload.
10. Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays when news demands it.
