The New Regions Data Senior Center Construction Manager (CM) is responsible for managing some of the most technical, cost efficient, and fast paced construction project schedules achievable. Amazon Construction Managers are constantly challenged to drive continuous improvement and deliver the highest quality, most technically efficient data centers in the world.
As a New Regions Data Center CM you will be a part of a highly creative, efficient team tasked with tackling the most fascinating and challenging problems in building Amazon data facilities. Amazon CM's are always on the forefront in the construction of new products in a number of areas, maintaining our focus on delivering the most innovative products to our customers. You will be on the construction site daily interacting with the construction trades, as Amazon’s owner’s representative and be directly responsible for driving cost, schedule, and quality while managing construction vendors and contractors building data centers in Canada, United States and Latin America: (AMER). The CM will also be utilized as a leader in their specific discipline: construction management, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or civil engineering.

Key job responsibilities
• Responsible for aspects of the entire data center life cycle construction starting with the due diligence, budgeting, site selection, permitting, design review, through daily construction oversight, and commissioning of completed facilities. You will be directly managing the construction projects.
• Direct interface with construction general contractors during the pre-construction, bidding, award, execution, and project closeout/punch list phases.
• Create construction Requests for Proposal (RFP’s) and Scopes of Work (SOW’s)
• Conduct negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids/proposals with detail and accuracy.
• Financial analysis and reporting.
• Construction project management for specific initiatives aimed at increasing the resiliency of our data centers.
• Constructability reviews of civil, structural, electrical and mechanical designs associated with the construction of new data centers or optimization of existing data centers.
• Construction document management including submittal review, RFI’s, change orders, and invoicing.
• Total project quality including the assisting with commissioning and integrated system testing and oversight of the execution of the project.
• Concurrently managing multiple projects including new data center building and capital improvement projects associated with existing data centers.
• Operational support of installed facilities including review of procedures, best practices, and maintenance initiatives.
• Record and report key construction metrics to team members and management.
• Drive teams to perform troubleshooting and root-cause failure analysis associated with equipment failures.
• Be a leader within the group as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.
• Travel to construction job sites across the Americas: (Canada, US and LATAM) supporting new construction and new product delivery for AWS Construction Management team.
• Ability to meet travel, entry & re-entry requirements for United States, Canada & LATAM countries
• Travel required: 50%-75%.

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Construction Management or an equivalent engineering science + 10 Years of industry experience OR 14+ years of related construction management experience in lieu of a degree.
• 10+ years of experience in construction management of large, complex projects involving large-scale power distribution/generation systems; mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) plants – including cooling systems.
• 10+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution.
• Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA
• Experience leading large contractor support teams; teams consisting of contractors, not direct employees.
• Experience developing, monitoring and maintaining mission critical project schedules; master schedules and micro schedules. Including proficiency with logic ties, constraints, critical path, float, lag, WBS, successors and predecessors.
• Travel to data center sites to manage pre-construction & construction efforts and/or for electrical systems audits, mechanical system reviews, constructability reviews, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required.
• Frequent domestic & international travel up to 50-75% to support projects as necessary.
• Possess relevant passport and ability to obtain visas for travel to international project locations.
• Ability to meet entry requirements for regions and countries outside of assigned office location.
• Understand electrical engineering principles including switch gear, UPS, transformers, and circuit breakers, breaker coordination studies & switchgear sequence of operation.
• Understanding of mechanical engineering principles for cooling systems.
• Experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers/critical infrastructure or large scale mechanical and electrical plants.
• Possess clear written and verbal communication skills and ability to use data to justify conclusions.
• Fully bilingual (proficient in English plus one of the following languages: Spanish or Portuguese, both spoken and written.
• Experience developing & managing projects in multiple countries
• Value engineering: proven ability to reduce costs through creative solutions with no impact on quality and reliability (new designs, technology, or construction methods).
• Able to read and interpret construction specifications and drawings for all disciplines.
• Define data center system-level architecture, specify/document performance and equipment requirements, create/communicate conceptual designs, and create/maintain project documentation.
• Experience with large scale technical operations or large-scale compute farms. ·
• Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, OSHA and equivalents in various LATAM regions.
• Experience in controls and commissioning of large-scale projects.
• Experience with power management and power monitoring systems.
• Experience with MCM’s and MOP’s
• Certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), LEED, and/or Certified Construction Manager (CCM).
• Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
