How to qualify

Possession of an Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Art, Fine Arts, Museum Studies or a related field; AND

Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.


Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.

One year full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40 hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.


Desirable Qualifications

Any of the stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

  1. One (1) or more years of experience working at a museum, gallery, art studio, private art collection, or related institution as an art handler, preparator, fabricator, carpenter, or other craft- or trades-related job.
  2. Excellent manual dexterity and knowledge in the special care and handling of irreplaceable objects.
  3. Ability to problem-solve and find attractive and safe solutions in the display of objects.
  4. Ability to perform complex fabrication using wood, metal, and/or plastic.
