Position Purpose: The Materials & Process Engineer I will be responsible for analyzing, researching, and developing materials and their related application processes for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems, and subsystems. The candidate will apply material engineering principles to support design and development projects across Blue Canyon product lines. The candidate be responsible for new conceptual layouts, detailed engineering designs of structural composites, modifications, integration of advanced materials, drawing reviews, and performing detailed technical reviews of drawings, specifications, and manufacturing plans in a team environment with other engineering organization.

(Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Represent and educate Materials and Process requirements for space applications across engineering disciplines and product lines.
  • Development of Materials and Process selection and implementation plans for space applications.
  • Support the selection of Parts, Materials, and Processes (PMP) in the design phase across all BCT product lines.
  • Generation of Material Usage Agreements (MUAs) to customers.
  • Support of materials test planning, analysis, and evaluation.
  • Support development of procurement material and process requirements for different types of product.
  • Oversee the prohibited materials planning and detection efforts.
  • Interface with cross functional teams regarding technical issues concerning raw materials, parts fabrication, and/or review of manufacturing plans.
  • Participate in proper selection of materials and processes for parts and products.
  • Participate in non-conformance disposition and corrective action processes.
  • Present data to both technical and non-technical audiences; and support the creation and execution of plans (including cost and schedule estimates) for depot level maintenance facilities.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

 

 

Required Qualifications/Education:

  • 3+ years of experience directly applicable to the aerospace industry materials and processes discipline.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a technical discipline (e.g., engineering field) or equivalent discipline (e.g., material engineering, chemistry, etc.).
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Background and knowledge in a materials field, for example metals, polymers, adhesives, lubricants, composites, etc.
  • Broad knowledge in process development and implementation for metal finish, bonding, coatings, plating, preferred a working knowledge of aerospace industry process specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate effectively, in writing and in presentations to various audiences.
  • Familiarity with NASA, military or industry specifications, especially materials test (e.g. ASTM) procedures.
  • Working knowledge of developing a process, for example, corrosion prevention, paints, coatings, adhesives, or lubrication.

 

 

Working Conditions:
This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines.
