Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to end school shootings,
and create a culture change that prevents violence and other harmful acts that hurt children. Through its life-saving evidence-informed Know the Signs prevention programs, SHP educates and empowers youth and adults to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be socially isolated and/or at risk of hurting themselves or others. SHP is a moderate, bipartisan organization that supports sensible policy solutions that address the human side of gun violence and make schools safer.

SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

Position Summary
Sandy Hook Promise is seeking a creative, experienced, and dynamic Graphic Designer to develop compelling and engaging content to engage parents, voters, youth, donors and other relevant audiences and deepen connections to our mission. While they will reside within the marketing function and support the Communications and Digital Marketing teams, they will also oversee visual design projects for our Programs, Policy, Development and other departments within the organization, serving as our visual brand champion and maintaining and evolving our visual look and feel. They will also be responsible for hiring and managing outside designers when workload and/or the scope of the project requires it. This role will report to the Associate Vice President, Digital.
This is a remote role.
Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate, brainstorm, and strategize with multiple teams (Marketing, Programs, Policy, Development, etc.) on a wide range of materials that may include presentations, logos, collateral, signage, white papers, annual reports, internal communications, newsletters, educational materials, student guides and other marketing materials.
  • Translate strategic direction into high-quality design within an established brand identity.
  • Develop concept, and execute original content by determining the ideal usage of color, text, font style, imagery, and layout and ensuring compliance with Sandy Hook Promise brand standards and that are ADA compliant.
  • Creates content with an omnichannel approach and collaborates with the digital team to repurpose content developed for traditional purposes to be used in social, web and other channels.
  • Manage the uploading process and naming conventions for all designed collateral to our content management and file systems (Brandfolder and Sharepoint).
  • Manage intake requests and projects through the organization’s tools, Monday.com and self-service merch and materials portal, including merchandise and collateral printing.
  • Coordinates with internal teams from the design concept phase through completion of a project and upload materials to appropriate platforms.
  • Obtains approval of concepts by preparing rough layouts for review.
  • Coordinates with outside agencies, freelancers, art services, printers, etc. to complete projects.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending design workshops; reviewing professional publications; and participating in professional societies.


Qualifications

  • Proven experience – 5+ years of experience in content creation and management and/or in the digital media space.
  • Professional experience using graphic design software tools including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Canva, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field.
  • Strong project management skills, capable of juggling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines. Familiarity with Monday as a project management tool a plus.
  • Transparency and integrity in all actions, demonstration of good judgment and keen instincts, strong team player able to work with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Positive attitude, mission-driven, self-directed and solution oriented.
  • Ability to handle rejection or feedback in a constructive manner.
  • Performs other duties as required.


Benefits and Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $70,000-80,000 (New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary closer to the start/middle of the range depending on qualifications and internal equity.)

Our organization operates within a distributed workforce, allowing for location flexibility across the country for most positions. We provide remote office support for all staff, which includes a laptop, home office reimbursement, monthly Wi-Fi reimbursement up to $40, and monthly cell phone reimbursement up to $50.
