SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the general supervision of department head or other staff member of higher rank.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Lead student workers as assigned.

Schedule: 40 hrs per wk, .Mon - Fri 9:30 am - 6:00 pm with a 30 minute unpaid meal break

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Leads student workers

  • Back up for student workers when needed

  • Maintains the training and procedure manual

  • Utilizes Alma (the integrated library system) and One Search (the library catalog) to register patrons, answer questions, and solve problems

  • Explains library policies and complex procedures to patrons

  • Answers and routes telephone calls

  • Informs and helps patrons with printing, copying, and scanning

  • Helps with bookstack maintenance and space utilization projects

  • Manages Information Desk files, lists, records, and statistics

  • Uses data visualization software to visualize statistics when required

  • Back up for other Information Desk functions and staff as needed

  • Attends workshops and seminars

  • Learns new technologies as adopted by the library and provides support for those technologies

  • Helps with outreach initiatives as directed by the Outreach Librarian

  • Performs related duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Knowledge of library science techniques and practices

  • Experience in public services, preferably in a college or university library

  • Considerable computer skills including MS Office Suite, and information systems

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to organize and maintain accurate records

  • Ability to follow complex instructions

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Three (3) years of experience involving a variety of library functions

SUBSTITUTION ALLOWED

College training in Library Science may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years for an Associates Degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated knowledge of library science techniques and practices

  • Knowledge of library resources and equipment

  • Experience with an integrated library system

  • B.A. from an accredited institution
