Position Summary:
Sparrowhawk Construction’s new Fort Morgan location is looking for a strong lead to help recruit, train, and manage local subcontractors at this location. Our lead must be highly motivated, great with people, and have a desire to learn and grow. In addition to leading, training, and minimal administrative duties, the lead position will be part of the build crew, assembling units alongside contractors daily.
Hours and Seasonal Info:
Work season: February through September
Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
Unit demand is seasonal, with steady work from February through September. However, there are occasional surges in demand when large customer orders come through, or we are called upon to build units for disaster relief. In these times, longer hours may be requested, including potential weekend shifts.
Work continues past September, but at a much lower volume. If demand allows, the lead will have the opportunity to travel and lead small work crews at other warehouses and customer locations across the country.
Personality Characteristics:
As stated previously, we are looking for a warehouse lead who wants to learn and grow both personally and professionally. Previous leadership experience is preferred but not required provided the lead is willing to be teachable and to stretch beyond where they are now. Responsibilities:
· Conduct yourself with a high degree of professionalism and courtesy.
· Work in and with small teams.
· Be teachable and willing to learn and adjust to different work methods
· Handle conflict well
· Coordinate workflow, forklift support, and communication with established warehouse staff.
· Train new contractors
· Track unit production and generate weekly invoices
· Maintain regular communication with the owner
· Assemble porta potties
· Safely use a variety of tools including rivet guns, drills, hammers, and knives
· Maintain a clean and safe workspace
Job Requirements:
· Must have good communicate skills
· Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds
· Must be able to perform moderate to heavy manual labor for extended periods of time
· Must have a strong work ethic and be self-motivated
· Must have a great attitude
· MUST be reliable.
· Must have an eye for detail
· Previous leadership experience is a plus
· Ability to travel is preferred
Compensation:
Employees and Subcontractors are paid at piece rate according to the style of unit being assembled. This pay can vary greatly from $17/hr. to $60/hr. depending on unit type, skill level, and order size. Most experienced contractors average between $25 and $32/hr. With piece rate work, the more efficient you and your team become, the more money you all can make.
The lead position will start out at as a subcontractor position. They will be paid a per-piece rate for units completed while in training.
Once the lead is well trained in the assembly process and begins to actively lead contractors, a bonus will be applied to their weekly paycheck according to the number of units completed by the crew. Once the lead and crew are independent, the lead will have the opportunity to enter a full-time employee position.
Additional Information (Important!)
· This job starts as a sub-contractor position, which means you will be receiving a 10-99 tax form at the end of the year. You will be responsible for your own taxes and for providing your own benefits and worker comp insurance.
· There are times when the workload will increase or decrease depending on demand and season. When the workload decreases, subcontractors may need to find temporary or supplemental work to meet their financial needs.
