Job Description:

The primary location of this position is the Cullowhee, NC campus. This position is exempt from the State of NC Human Resources Act (EHRA).


Western Carolina University seeks a talented and motivated Junior Web Developer to join our University Marketing and Communications web team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about web development and eager to contribute to the university’s digital presence.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the development, maintenance, and optimization of the university’s websites.
  2. Collaborate with the web team to implement new features and functionalities.
  3. Ensure website performance, security, and scalability.
  4. Troubleshoot and resolve website issues in a timely manner.
  5. Work closely with designers, content creators, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality web solutions.
  6. Stay updated with the latest web development trends and technologies.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this Position:

  1. Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other web development languages.
  2. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress or Drupal.
  3. Basic understanding of SEO principles and web analytics tools.
  4. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  5. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  6. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or other related field.
  2. Experience: 0 to 2 years of relevant experience.
  3. Other: Interested candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employment sponsorship or any other immigration-related assistance.


Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the above-stated minimum qualifications, management has a preference for those candidates who have experience with responsive and mobile-first web design, knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG), and familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
