Overview
We are seeking an experienced Controller to join our team and who thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will provide leadership and coordination of the accounting, human resources, and information technology operations of the company, be a trusted business partner with our operations group, and be responsible for developing and maintaining all areas relating to Sales Order Processing, A/P, A/R, Inventory, Purchase Order, General Ledger, and Financial Reporting for JD Rush Company and its affiliated companies.
This position supervises a staff of approximately ten, reports directly to the President of JD Rush Company, and has contact with senior-level management requiring both strong written and verbal interpersonal communication skills.
Requirements
- Education – bachelor’s degree or equivalent with an accounting emphasis required.
- Three to five years' experience in accounting environment and a minimum of three years' experience in a supervisory capacity.
- CPA is preferred.
- Skills, knowledge, and abilities - ability to work independently, to supervise and work well with others in a multi-functional environment. Ability to provide accurate financial reports and data as requested. Capability to compute discount, interest, profit and loss, selling price, ratio and proportion, and percentage. Competence to calculate standard formulas, develops spreadsheets and prepare graphs.
- Reasoning Ability - analytical and mathematical skills as related to accounting practices and procedures. Good comprehension of accounting and spreadsheet software, excellent reading, writing and verbal skills. Ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables in situations with only limited standardization. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and schedule form.
- Judgment and Decision Making - Seek guidance and direction, as well as training for the performance of duties. Motivate, coach and counsel the employees reporting to this position, when the situation presents itself. Respect and safeguard the confidentiality of the company and personnel records and information.

Skills
- Strong inventory, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, income tax and banking working knowledge.
- Good understanding and working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Authority
- The Controller is given authority to conduct all routine business and management affairs that relate to accounting functions.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, evaluate, discipline, and recommend the promotion and the termination of any personnel who report directly to the Controller.
- Enforce the directives, policies, and standard operating procedures for the accounting area.
- Take any reasonable action necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position, while consistent with established company policy and sound business judgment.
Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the Controller are as follows:
- Accountable for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, and annual audits and annual budgets.
- Ensure company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
- Provide a system to maintain financial records in compliance with all federal, state, local, and professional requirements.
- Ensure that payables are paid in a timely manner.
- Ensure that sales are invoiced, and receivables collected promptly.
- Provide for a system of management reports and financial analysis as needed.
- Ensure accuracy of management inventory reports.
- Ensure that key balance sheet account reconciliations are completed in a timely manner.
- Maintain the chart of accounts.
- Ensure all financial reports are prepared accurately as required to comply with external reporting requirements.
- Monitor credit facilities and perform compliance reviews.
- Manage outsourced IT function.
- Maintain accurate accounting records of the Company's business.
SPECIFIC DUTIES include, but are not limited to:
The principal duties of the Controller are listed as follows:
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
- Hands on supervision of the Order Entry, AR, AP, Inventory, purchase order receipts, and general ledger groups to ensure accurate transactional processing.
- Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Ensure accurate inventory reporting and allocation.
- Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine transactions.
- Collaborate with the sales department to support overall department goals and objectives.
- Respond to companywide requests regarding special reporting requirements.
- Processing of bi-weekly payroll.
- Work with the President to ensure a clean and timely year end audit. Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
- Ensure the monthly Bank Compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Reconcile all General Ledger Accounts prior to close of Month End.
- Month End Closing by 5th working day of following month.
- Support Senior Management with special projects and workflow process improvements.
- Ensure processing of the daily banking requirements.
- Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
