Commstock Investments is an independent, full-service agriculture risk management firm, specializing in commodity brokerage services, crop insurance and a well-known newsletter called, The Commstock Report. Founded in 1982, we currently have 6 offices located across the Midwest with our headquarters in Royal, IA. Our goal is to help farmers to do a better job marketing their production by managing their risk using futures and options. The owners have experience in farming in both Iowa and Brazil, giving them a global perspective and direct access to fundamental market intelligence.


We are looking for a self-motivated and energetic new team member to join our staff of experienced commodity brokers. This individual will begin their training process working next to an experienced broker. We have a successful track record of helping new and veteran brokers develop strong books of business.

We specialize in trading all major ag commodities (grains & livestock), although we also trade the financial indexes, currencies and the energy complex. Commodity Analyst Responsibilities:

  1. Studying and forecasting the agricultural markets impact for producers and the ag industry
  2. Collecting and Analyzing market trends
  3. Advising ag producers and ag related businesses on economic decisions.
  4. Provide periodic daily, weekly and/or monthly reports, podcasts, webinars, interviews and face to face ag marketing meetings
  5. Generate investment or trade ideas based on fundamental and technical research and date analysis
  6. Contribute to publications or agricultural journals, or ag related trade shows
  7. Providing agricultural data in accessible ways.
  8. Making use of historical data by creating technical charts or graphs to depict market trends, supply and demand, and other fundamental information.

Commodity Analyst Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Ag related field, Economics, political science, business or finance.
  2. Experience in an analytical role.
  3. Quantitative aptitude.
  4. Knowledge of both fundamental and technical analysis in studying market trends
  5. Analytical mindset and good problem-solving skills.
  6. Technological skills capable of hosting webinars, podcasts, interviews and face to face meetings
  7. Good organizational skills.
  8. Outstanding written and verbal communication.
  9. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  10. Attention to detail.
  11. Chart or graphics design capability
  12. Ideally possess or ability to obtain a Series 3 license
