Why You’ll Be Over the Moon to Join Intero Digital (The Client)

When you join Intero Digital, you become part of a collaborative, creative, and growth-minded community of innovators, strategists, and creators working together to push the boundaries of what’s possible in digital marketing. As a full-service digital marketing agency with deep expertise across every major discipline, you won’t just be part of the digital landscape—you’ll help shape it.

We are a remote-first company with physical offices in San Diego, CA, Colorado Springs, CO, and Columbus, OH.

The Mission (aka The Role)

The GEO Content Manager sits at the intersection of content, SEO, and AI search. They are responsible for producing and optimizing content that earns citations and visibility inside generative engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Bing Copilot. This isn't traditional content writing. It requires understanding how large language models source, evaluate, and summarize information and crafting content that meets that standard.

This role blends hands-on content strategy with team leadership and cross-functional collaboration. In addition to contributing directly to content direction and optimization, the GEO content manager will oversee a small team of GEO content writers, helping maintain quality, consistency, editorial standards, and scalable delivery across client accounts.

You'll work closely with GEO strategists, SEO teams, account managers, and cross-service teams to ensure content is structured, authoritative, and built to be the answer AI engines choose to cite.

Mission Objectives (Essential Functions)

Team Leadership and Management

  1. Manage and mentor a small team of approximately 4–5 GEO content team members, supporting day-to-day execution, growth, and delivery quality.
  2. Review and provide feedback on written deliverables to ensure consistency in quality, accuracy, GEO best practices, and brand alignment.
  3. Help oversee team bandwidth, task delegation, timelines, and content production workflows to support scalable delivery across accounts.
  4. Partner with leadership on onboarding, training, process improvement, and evolving GEO content standards.
  5. Act as a resource for team members by helping troubleshoot challenges, answer strategic content questions, and support professional development.
  6. Collaborate cross-functionally with SEO, GEO, Earned Media, and Account Management teams to ensure alignment across client initiatives.

Content Creation and Execution

  1. Write high-quality, authoritative content optimized for AI-driven search experiences, including blog posts, pillar pages, FAQs, landing pages, thought leadership pieces, and structured knowledge content.
  2. Identify content opportunities by analyzing GEO prompt data, reviewing competitor visibility in AI-generated responses, and assessing content gaps across generative engines.
  3. Apply answer-first structuring, entity optimization, schema-aware formatting, and Q and A frameworks to maximize citation potential in generative engines.
  4. Use AI-assisted tools to generate, structure, or enhance content while maintaining high editorial standards, factual accuracy, and brand voice.
  5. Develop content that is specific, well-cited, and data-rich, as these are the signals generative engines reward most.

Content Editing and Optimization

  1. Edit and refine existing content for clarity, authority signals, credibility, and factual accuracy.
  2. Optimize legacy content to improve visibility in AI-generated responses, including AI Overviews, Perplexity citations, and ChatGPT summaries.
  3. Ensure consistency in tone, voice, and messaging across all deliverables.
  4. Maintain editorial standards and evolving GEO best practices across the content team.

Client Strategy and Collaboration

  1. Partner with GEO Strategists to execute client topic maps, content roadmaps, and visibility strategies.
  2. Support account managers and cross-service teams in strategic client discussions, contributing GEO content insights where relevant (e.g., QBRs, strategy calls, reporting discussions).
  3. Elevate client conversations by framing content decisions in terms of AI search visibility and business impact, not just traffic or word count.
  4. Anticipate content gaps and surface recommendations proactively, keeping client strategies ahead of AI search shifts.

Performance and Innovation

  1. Monitor AI search trends, generative engine behavior, and algorithm shifts, adjusting content strategies to maintain and grow client visibility.
  2. Track content performance through AI citation rate, share of voice in AI responses, and referral traffic from AI platforms (ChatGPT, Perplexity, etc.).
  3. Utilize SEO and AI search platforms including SEMrush, Ahrefs, Profound, and Google Search Console to inform content decisions and track GEO performance.
  4. Maintain a working knowledge of how LLMs function, relevant KPIs, and content-related GEO best practices.
  5. Apply concepts such as vector embeddings, RAG, grounding, chunks, passages, and citations in daily content work.
  6. Stay current on industry changes related to GEO/AEO/AIO and the future of organic visibility.
  7. Contribute to internal knowledge sharing, GEO best practice documentation, and service refinement initiatives.
  8. Identify opportunities to improve content workflows and production processes that enhance delivery at scale.

Your Space Suit Specs (Requirements and Qualifications)

  1. 5+ years of experience in SEO content writing, editing, and/or content strategy within a digital marketing agency or similar environment.
  2. Previous experience managing or mentoring content team members in a collaborative, fast-paced environment preferred.
  3. Strong understanding of SEO fundamentals, including search intent, keyword research, and on-page optimization as the foundation for GEO work.
  4. Familiarity with how generative AI platforms (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Bing Copilot) source and surface content.
  5. Working knowledge of SEO and AI search platforms such as SEMrush, Ahrefs, Profound, BrightEdge, and Google Search Console.
  6. Experience with or strong interest in GEO techniques: structured data, entity optimization, schema markup, Q and A formatting, and E-E-A-T signals.
  7. Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a sharp eye for accuracy and tone.
  8. Ability to translate complex or technical topics into clear, accessible, citation-worthy content.
  9. Comfortable using AI writing tools to enhance (not replace) human-driven content creation.
  10. Organized and independently manages time and workload with little oversight.
  11. Collaborative, but able to work independently and hit deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  12. Ability to work 40 hours per week (remote).
  13. Collaborative spirit and ability to thrive in an autonomous, remote-first environment.
  14. Curiosity and a drive to innovate.
  15. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  16. Creative problem-solving and adaptability in a fast-changing environment.
  17. Strong project management and organization skills.
  18. Strong understanding of digital channels.
  19. Formal education is not required—skill, creativity, and initiative are what matter most.
