Looking for a skillful Sr. Technical Designer for women’s RTW apparel and special project categories in which they will facilitate the transition of product from initial design/1st proto through final production approval. The individual will collaborate with cross-functional partners to achieve appropriate fit and functional intent as well as to obtain clear direction and consensus on design aesthetic, fit intent and construction. The Sr. Technical Designer will be responsible for attending fit sessions on live models, working with the Director of Technical Design and the design team to achieve design aesthetic and communicate fit and balance corrections to domestic/overseas factories. The individual will develop key interdepartmental relationships to support working efficiently and drive fit consistency to improve the customer experience.
Responsibilities:
· Ensure overall fit consistency and provide fit approvals to overseas factories.
· Demonstrate a clear understanding of design, product development and production priorities and timeline.
· Participate in fit sessions, construction and fit approval, and document all changes in Excel based tech pack.
· Use technical knowledge to troubleshoot and resolve issues with overseas factory pattern development.
· Use technical knowledge to maintain fit intent, balance and construction across all categories.
· Identify potential production and quality issues and make recommendations to meet and elevate brand standards.
· Evaluate garment to determine compliance of specs, construction, quality and fit intent.
· Independent worker who is able to maintain and manage workload in a fast-paced environment with overlapping development and production seasonal workflow.
· Support the Director of Technical Design with daily factory communication.
· Assist with sample tracking, coordinating samples, and prepping fit sessions.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Technical Design or a related field of study.
· 5+ years’ experience with Women’s Contemporary Technical Design, garment construction and manufacturing processes for wovens, cut & sew, & knitwear.
· Computer Skills- Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Suite and Google Suite required.
· Thorough knowledge of Patternmaking and Grading.
· Strong knowledge of measuring and spec’ing garments.
· Strong communication skills for daily factory email follow-up.
· Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
· Strong knowledge in technical workmanship, quality and terminology.
· Must have strong technical sketching skills through Illustrator.
· Can proactively solve problems and effectively manage multiple challenges.
· Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
Employment Type
· Seasonal Freelance: $60-$70/hr
· Direct report to the Director of Technical Design.
