We are seeking a freelance print layout designer to support the ISP's mySci program to complete revision of science curriculum resources that impact thousands of K-8 teachers and students across the St. Louis region. The designer will support completion of eight mySci units.

mySci is a K-8 science instructional program that is widely used in the St. Louis region. It includes curriculum resources, kits of materials, and professional development. Years of teacher survey feedback helped us identify the need to revise mySci’s resources. The guiding principles for this iteration include making mySci more equitable, accessible, and engaging for all students, and making it more streamlined for teachers to use.

Responsibilities

• Translate eight mySci units into a pre-designed format (Here is a link to view a designed resource: https://docs.google.com/document/d/10ujm4BrZNqcoimZ0XpBuYE_-Dy6aHUo6_Oy2Iy7BzR8/edit
• Work as a member of a team and independently to design revised mySci curriculum
• Format mySci resources, including: teacher guides, student journals and answer keys, and student-facing slides

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Graphic Design, Art or Fine Arts.
• Extensive knowledge designing in Google Documents and Google Slides
• Editorial design experience
• Strong attention to detail
• Copy editing experience
• Utilizes design principles, industry best practices and current trends using emerging technologies in new media, particularly design programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop and other equivalents.
• A good understanding of typography
• Science content knowledge, interest in science, or previous work in designing in a science field, is preferable.
