Founding Engineer | Remote | Financial Services
An established, highly profitable business (ARR doubling YoY) is investing heavily in technology as the next phase of growth. This is a rare opportunity to join as the first engineering hire, taking an early-stage product and shaping it into a production-grade platform at the core of the business.
You’ll work directly with the founder and key stakeholders to build systems that power real operations - with immediate impact on revenue, efficiency, and scalability. This isn’t a speculative startup - it’s a stable, growing company where the product already has users, data, and clear direction.
The Role
You’ll join as a Founding Engineer, owning an existing MVP and driving it through to a scalable, production-ready platform. This is a true 0→1 (and 1→n) role - combining backend-heavy engineering with product thinking, architecture, and real ownership.
There’s no traditional product layer - you’ll help define what gets built as much as you build it, working closely with end users to solve meaningful problems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of an early-stage product and evolve it into a robust, scalable system
- Design and build backend-heavy systems, with some frontend components where needed
- Develop data pipelines and integrations across internal tools and third-party platforms (APIs, SDKs)
- Build systems that leverage AI/LLMs to automate complex workflows and generate structured outputs
- Collaborate directly with internal stakeholders to understand workflows and translate them into software
- Make product and technical decisions in a fast-moving, low-structure environment
- Continuously improve architecture, performance, and scalability
- Play a key role in shaping the future engineering team as the company grows
What You Bring:
- Strong backend engineering experience (Python preferred)
- Full-stack capability (JavaScript / React)
- Experience taking products from early-stage → production
- Hands-on experience with APIs, integrations, and data flows
- Exposure to AI/LLMs (e.g. document processing, prompt engineering, structured outputs)
- Comfortable operating without heavy structure or defined requirements
- Product mindset - able to prioritise, make decisions, and execute independently
Why This Role:
- Be the first engineer and own a product end-to-end
- Build from scratch within a profitable, scaling business
- Direct impact on revenue and operational efficiency from day one
- Work on meaningful AI-driven problems, not surface-level features
- High ownership without early-stage startup risk
- Clear path to build and lead the engineering function over time
