The North Willamette Research and Extension Center invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Faculty Research Assistant position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head.
This is a full-time position with the North Willamette Research and Extension Center (NWREC) at Oregon State University (OSU). This position is located at the OSU’s North Willamette Research and Extension Center in Aurora, Oregon. NWREC is part of Oregon State University’s Agricultural Experiment Station and Extension Service. This position contributes to Oregon State University’s North Willamette Research and Extension Center (NWREC) mission of conducting horticultural crops research and extending new knowledge to the horticultural industries and communities, particularly in the Willamette Valley. It also supports the OSU Extension Service mission to engage the people of Oregon with research-based knowledge and education that strengthen communities and economies, sustain natural resources, and promote healthy families and individuals.
Mission
The Nackley Lab serves as the Research Leader for Nursery Production at Oregon State University, with Extension responsibilities and a role in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Our mission is to sustain horticultural production systems by partnering with growers and academics to provide research-based solutions for plant cultivation challenges. The Nackley Lab is committed to inclusivity and investigates the issues affecting young plants. We are scientists and educators with expertise in ecology, entomology, soil science, and engineering, dedicated to helping people grow plants successfully.
Purpose
The purpose of this position is to support the nursery production program at NWREC. The Nursery Production team conducts research, teaching, and Extension, and the incumbent would support all facets of the work conducted by the program. This position will be responsible for managing all aspects of agricultural research, including taking experimental designs from paper to implementation in the field or greenhouse. This involves understanding experimental design, procuring materials, building systems, monitoring plants, recording and analyzing data, and presenting research results. The incumbent will provide objective, science-based information related to nursery production and greenhouse management, actively engaging in scholarly activities and field research to advance the mission of the Nackley Lab and NWREC.
