The Challenge
We're looking for an experienced Engineering Technician to join our Division 6 District 2 team.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Process and review driveway permits, site plans, utility and non-utility encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions/abandonments.
    • Perform on-site inspections for compliance to NCDOT specifications for driveway permits, encroachments, and subdivisions.
    • Conduct pre-construction meetings with requesting parties.
    • Perform field inspections and prepare deficiency letters relating to road additions, driveway permits and encroachments.
    • Meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and procedures, answer questions, and address complaints from the public by phone, written correspondence, and in person.
    • Assist the team, as needed, during emergencies and bad weather.
    • Assist our District Engineer with other tasks.
 
What You Bring
    • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
    • Customer service experience resolving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
    • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
    • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
    • Communication skills to provide phone and onsite technical assistance to onsite inspectors, developers, contractors, engineers, and the public.
    • Ability to review and interpret construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures.
    • Solid knowledge of math functions, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
    • Surveying equipment skills, plus ability to use basic office equipment, drafting equipment, and computer programs, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, & Access), MicroStation, and drafting applications.
    • Safety toe shoes.
 
Education & Experience
    • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline, and
    • 3+ years of technician experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
