Engineer 3 or 4 - Rock Mechanics
Location: Stillwater Mine
POSITION SUMMARY:
* Carry out ground control assessments of existing and future mine openings.
* Review and approve mine development and production proposals- design and sequence.
* Provide input to the weekly and monthly planning processes, as well as review long term mine designs and reserves as directed by Sr. Rock Mechanics Engineer.
* Be involved with preparation of the annual ground control budget and LOM planning activities.
* Assist in development & communication of Ground Control Management Plan, revisions to SOPs, specialized ground control plans, and other ground control related documents.
* Application of underground rock mechanics technology in design, monitoring and support, as well as research of new technologies.
* Quality control and quality assurance of ground support, backfill, and shotcrete.
* Development and presentation of educational material as related to rock mechanics and ground support (new-hire training, Annual Refresher, periodic safety training).
* Other responsibilities include assisting general foremen, project managers, and others in the execution of the plan or of specific mine projects as it relates to geological engineering.
* When directed by the Sr Rock Mechanics Engineer, assist in root cause analysis, incident reviews, & process improvement.
* Participate in group, department, divisional, & company safety programs (PGI, Safety Meetings, etc).
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
* BS in Geological Engineering or equivalent plus 3 or more years of prior rock mechanics experience.
* Strong leadership qualities pertaining to character, teamwork, communication, business sense, & vision.
* Critical thinking skills plus the ability to utilize rock engineering principals and methods to solve problems.
* Experience with Rocsience software (RS2 & UnWedge) plus Vulcan and Promine or Deswik as relates to geomechanics modelling - preferred
* Well-developed verbal communication skills and strong technical writing abilities - required
* Basic understanding of MSHA regulations- required
