Job Description:

Do you want to use your skills in one of most innovative aerospace companies, specializing in end-to-end customer solutions and the rapid production of spacecraft platforms? You'll be helping the organization to get it's customers to orbit rapidly and responsively.

 

 

Within the Electro-Optical role, you will facilitate optical communication system designs for their missions. You will work closely with their customers and technology partners to analyze optical system performance, and verify requirements and specifications to enable the next generation of satellite communication systems. You will be the primary optical consultant for all internal and external personnel, supporting the entire program lifecycle.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate partner optical system verification and integration for the spacecraft.
  • Determine optical payload specifications in accordance with spacecraft designs, customer requirements, optical analysis, and industry standards.
  • Oversee the design, development, testing, and delivery of optical payloads by our suppliers.
  • Work across the supply chain and the engineering team to define interfaces and ensure compatibility between optical payloads and the Space Vehicles.
  • Fulfill the role of primary optical consultant within engineering, to the customer and with their supplier community.
  • Support on-orbit optical payload testing and operations through the development of operational procedures.
  • Verify product performance through analysis and test.
  • Work across a diverse team of internal and external stakeholders to achieve the mission objectives.
  • Act as the customer POC, from a program perspective and communicate with the customer at regular tag-ups and formal technical reviews.
  • Support necessary optical regulatory filing.
  • May require some travel to support testing and launch.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 6+ years of RF system design, electrical engineering, or optical engineering related disciplines
  • Experience in the design, development, and/or testing of optical payloads (e.g. lasers, optical comm, lidar) for space.
  • Familiarity with optical message framing, coding, error correction, etc.
  • Ability to perform optical link budget calculations for space-to-space and space-to-ground applications
  • Familiarity with optical/lidar signal processing techniques.
  • Experience with the environments experienced by a spacecraft and their implications to precision optical systems.
  • Ability to possess a security clearance
