Job Description:
The Electrical Drafter (C&I and Community Solar) will provide project design and drafting support to the Engineering Department to complete data organization and drafting tasks to drive projects from Notice to Proceed development sets through Issued For Construction (IFC) and As Built. This position works closely with Sales, Proposals and Pre-Construction, Procurement, Project Management and Construction departments to ensure project designs meet all requirements and expectations.

 

This position reports to the Head of Engineering. This position is located in Manhattan, New York, and the ideal candidate will be within commutable distance to this location. Remote candidates may be considered based on direct experience, communication skills, and ability to work independently. Frequency of travel to each job site will depend on experience, aptitude, preference, and volume.

 

Compensation: $56,000-97,000 (based on experience) + bonus\

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Complete Interconnection, Permit, and Construction drawings for rooftop, ground mounted, and parking canopy designs.
  • Prepare site AC electrical plans, DC stringing plans, single- and three-line diagrams, control schematics and wiring diagrams, equipment and feeder schedules, equipment arrangement elevation and plan views, grounding grid and details, mechanical mounting details, electrical termination details, etc.
  • Coordinate and maintain healthy relationships with consultants, external engineers, 3rd party drafting firms, equipment vendors, and Engineer of Record Stamp & Seal.
  • Oversee the process of outsourcing CAD blocks and designs as required to meet work volume.
  • Review product literature for electrical equipment and convert to CAD block renderings.
  • Review manufacturing approval drawing and as built assembly drawing submittals for electrical equipment and convert to CAD block renderings.
  • Assist with presenting progress drawing sets to clients and RFP submissions to vendors.
  • Produce Scope of Work (SOW) and Bill of Materials (BOM) documents.
  • Perform site walks to document existing conditions and redline drawings for As Built set.
  • Maintain design tools and calculators in Microsoft Excel.
  • Create and maintain AutoCAD drawing templates, tool palette, and block libraries.
  • Research industry trends, new technology, and products for design and process optimization.
  • Generate training/process documentation for all new processes.
  • Assist with training materials and hands-on training of new employees and contractors.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Electrical Engineering degree or commensurate experience
  • Minimum 2-3 years of commercial/industrial PV design experience and installation process
  • Strong understanding of commercial three phase electrical service equipment, interconnection methods for PV systems, and relevant portions of the National Electric Code (NEC)
  • High level understanding of medium voltage systems (equipment, grounding, and protection)
  • Expert in AutoCAD, PVcase, and PVSyst
  • Demonstrated collective experience with projects through entire construction lifecycle
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Organized, detail-oriented, with ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Excellent ability to communicate among construction, technical and non-technical personnel, both internally and outside the company
  • Working knowledge of common electrical construction materials and methods
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving dynamic, environment

 

Preferred Qualifcations

 

  • EIT Certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Programming experience in AutoCAD with C++ and LISP
  • SQL server integration into AutoCAD automation
  • Experience with medium voltage electrical design, microgrids, and EV charging
