The Democracy Alliance (DA), founded in 2005, is a donor community of individual philanthropists, foundations, and labor unions who are dedicated to democracy and our progressive future. The DA invests in building the progressive infrastructure in the United States by filling gaps, providing catalytic funding, and resourcing social change, all in the name of building a just, equitable, feminist, multiracial democracy that works for all.

 

The Democracy Alliance recently completed a robust strategic planning process that articulated a new 10-year strategic vision, grounded in the political opportunities before us and the necessity for long term strategies and resources. The DA’s vision builds on our 17-year history and looks to the future; is deeply grounded in a commitment to racial, gender, and economic justice and a thriving climate; and reaffirms the DA’s critical role as a convenor, resource aggregator and community builder.

 

The strategic planning process revealed the DA’s critical and unique role as a powerful convener—a dynamic forum where leading progressive donors, foundations, and organized labor strategize together to leverage their shared power and drive resources in service of our democracy. In this role as convener, the DA hosts two flagship conferences each year that bring together 150 – 400 donors, movement leaders and elected leaders over several days to learn, collaborate, and plan. Throughout the year, the organization also offers numerous learning events to build the capacity of its members and partners and foster connections across its network.

About the Role: Donor Organizer - Battleground New York

 

The NY Organizer is the DA’s lead staffer on DA recruitment in NY and for resourcing Battleground NY a powerful Labor and Community Coalition committed to winning the US House via 6 key battleground districts in NY. This is a role for a skilled organizer and political fundraiser who is committed to organizing donors in service of protecting the democracy we have and building the just, feminist multiracial democracy we need. New York is one of the key states that will determine the fate of our democracy. We need radical collaboration, fresh thinking and a can do approach to work! This person will be focused on winning the House in 2024 AND building long term progressive donor support for NY and across the United States.

 

Responsibilities

 

Build and execute new recruitment strategies to grow the DA’s network of donors in New York State, and build critical resources for progressive political change.

 

Spearhead our role in resourcing Battleground NY through:

• Developing a communications, engagement, education, and fundraising plan that

includes launching and facilitating a well-functioning Funder Circle of highly-engaged donors and national collaborators.

• Careful stewardship of new and existing donors with both programming and

administrative support.

• Regular coordination with the Battleground NY Coalition Directors and counterparts

to maintain depth of knowledge on program progress, funding gaps, and spending

prioritization.

• Accurate and timely understanding of incoming and outgoing grants and contributions.

 

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ growing responsibility for raising funds for social justice organizations, from

institutional and, especially, individual donors. Political fundraising expertise a plus.

• A commitment to our values of racial, gender, and economic justice in the United States

and within our organization.

• A sense of urgency about the threats to our democracy and a relentless nature for marshaling resources for its consolidation.
• A record of success working in campaign coalitions, and the ability to negotiate, build

consensus, resolve conflicts, and strategically disagree.

• Experience with independent expenditure campaigns and VAN; electoral field program

management; tactical use of public opinion research; and communications, including

both earned and paid media.

• Experience working with donors, including preparing reports and presentations.
• A track record of developing, managing, and mentoring staff, grounded in principles of

diversity, equity, and justice; demonstrated history of forging strong and positive

relationships with colleagues inside and outside your organization.

• Availability to work irregular hours and travel nationally for donor events.
• Knowledge or background in NYS politics and organizational landscape.

This could be crafted as a part or full time position-consultant or staff.

 

Compensation: $12-15,000 per month, commensurate with experience and scope
