Description Of Work

The Disability Specialist will provide direct assistance to students with disabilities in setting up accommodations, assisting in the coordination of accommodations with Faculty/Staff and follow up with students about their accommodations they are using. This position will participate in campus activities that would involve students with disabilities.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in disability studies, rehabilitation, counseling, special education, social work, psychology, or related fields is required and/or equivalent experience will be considered.
 

  • Two years experience working with persons with disabilities is required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and a record of inclusion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and work effectively with students, faculty, and administrative constituencies required.
  • Demonstrated awareness, knowledge, and skills in working with a diverse population required.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws related to providing disability accommodations in a university or college setting and in compliance with ADA and Section 504 Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is required.
  • Knowledge of assistive and accessible information technologies including digital and web content is required.
  • Ability to evaluate learning difficulties using various diagnostic assessment tools, interpret disability documentation, recommend, and implement reasonable accommodations.
  • Must be able to manage sensitive and confidential information professionally and appropriately.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to communicate effectively to largely diverse groups.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, analytical and organization skills.

     

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in disability studies, rehabilitation, counseling, special education, social work, psychology, or related fields.
 

  • Experience working within higher education serving undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities.
  • Experience with Universal Design for Learning.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting and engaging students with multiple intersecting social identities including, but not limited to, disability, race, gender, and sexuality, international, and neurodiversity.

     

Posted Salary $55,000/yr.
