Job Description:

The Director ensures the preservation of Dartmouth’s human, physical and financial resources through effective development and administration of risk management policies. The Director identifies, monitors, and manages risk; for the safety health and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and community and to financially protect and support the mission of Dartmouth College.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp Bachelors plus 6 or more years' experience or combination of education and experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience in risk and insurance management
  • Advance knowledge of risk management principles, standards, and practices
  • In depth knowledge of the insurance market for higher education
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and networking skills
  • Superior analytical and writing abilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and high degree of ethical standards
  • Commitment to diversity and serving the needs of a diverse population

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience as a broker/underwriter
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Previous management experience
  • CPCU , ARM , AIC or advanced certification/degree

  • Oversees and assists in the performance and coordination of the work activities related to the risk management, claims management, and insurance programs of Dartmouth to facilitate the health and safety of the Dartmouth community, and its physical and financial resources.
  • Analyzes Dartmouth’s risk exposure, loss potential, and loss trends and guides staff in the development of risk and loss mitigation policies.
  • Collaborates with the Office of General Counsel and external insurers on claims management and settlement activities.
  • Serves as primary contact with risk retention group ( RRG ), actively participates in governance of RRG as a Board member and in operation as a member of various standing committees.
  • Conducts staff hiring, performance assessments, personnel development and fosters collaborative working environment.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.

Insurance/Risk Management

 

  • Evaluates Dartmouth’s insurance portfolio to ensure policy terms and conditions adequately address exposures, new initiatives, and emerging industry issues.
  • Monitors insurance market and higher education developments, assesses Dartmouth’s needs and makes recommendations to senior leadership, including alternatives to traditional insurance programs.
  • Reviews contracts to ensure insurance, indemnification and other contractual language is adequately addressed to protect Dartmouth.
  • Provides high level advocacy for risk assessment and mitigation and established risk management expectations throughout Dartmouth.
