Position Reports To: Chief Operating Officer

Purpose: The Director of Membership and Marketing is responsible for driving membership growth through business development, lead generation, and community engagement. This role combines sales, marketing, and relationship-building strategies to recruit girls and adult volunteers while strengthening Girl Scouts' brand presence in the community. The position develops and implements innovative recruitment campaigns, builds partnerships with schools and organizations, and ensures Girl Scouts is recognized as the premier leadership experience for girls.
Location: This is a council-wide position with hybrid location flexibility. This position will be based out of the Girl Scout headquarters in Charleston, WV one to three days a week, Hybrid flexibility will be dependent on the residential location of the selected candidate.
Direct Reports:
This position leads a team of five Regional Market Managers and a Senior Marketing and Communications Manager. RMMs work remotely throughout our council's geographic footprint. The SMCM position is based in the Council Headquarters in Charleston, WV. The membership staff serve smaller regions throughout the council and are our council points of contact for troop leaders and service unit administrators.
Salary: $62,000/year with a performance bonus potential of $5,000

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
Business Development & Sales (Membership Recruitment)
- Develop and implement a Council-wide membership plan that represents growth strategies to achieve council recruitment goals.
- Provide oversight of overall council-wide membership growth.
- Generate, track, and convert leads into new girl and adult members.
- Build strong pipelines of prospective members through schools, businesses, and community organizations.
- Use data and analytics to monitor KPIs, progress, evaluate conversion rates, and adjust strategies for success.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
- Establish and maintain relationships with schools, parent organizations, faith-based groups, and other community partners.
- Represent Girl Scouts at community events, speaking engagements, and networking opportunities.
- Collaborate with volunteers, staff, and community leaders to break down barriers and expand access and participation.
Marketing & Brand Awareness
- Plan and execute marketing campaigns with RMMs and the SMCM that promote Girl Scouts' mission, programs, and impact.
- Oversee the development of innovative marketing approaches that expand awareness of Girl Scouts in the community and strengthen the council's reputation and impact.
- Oversee digital outreach, social media, email marketing, and grassroots marketing initiatives.
- Ensure consistent messaging and alignment with Girl Scouts' national brand standards.
- Work with communications staff and external agencies to develop promotional materials, media releases, and success stories.
- Supervise and coach the SMCM to coordinate digital outreach, social media, email marketing, and grassroots marketing
Leadership & Collaboration
- Train, motivate, and support staff and volunteers engaged in membership development.
- Collaborate across departments to align messaging and strengthen overall member experience.
- Contribute to the council's strategic planning and membership forecasting.
- Work collaboratively across the council to design and achieve the strategic membership and marketing plan.
- Analyze marketing data and campaign performance metrics to guide decision-making, optimize strategies, and demonstrate return on investment.
- Oversee the department's annual budget and budgeting process.
- Exemplify strong leadership, team, and personal accountability in the development of environments that foster diversity, equity, inclusion, and access through words, actions, and attitude.
- Perform other duties as necessary or assigned.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, sales, organizational leadership, non-profit management, business, or another related field.
- 3+ years of sales, marketing, community engagement or non-profit membership development
- 3+ years supervisory experience.
- Proven ability to deliver results.
- Proven ability for accountability practices.
- Budgetary experience preferred.
- Data-driven mindset with the ability to track metrics.
- Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to engage diverse communities.
- Knowledge of digital marketing and CRM systems (Salesforce experience preferred).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel throughout council area.
- Occasionally moves throughout the facility to access file cabinets, office machinery, supplies, etc.
- Occasionally moves items that weigh up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to sit in a meeting or at a workstation and a computer screen for prolonged periods.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed; valid DL and access to reliable transportation.
