The workplace is undergoing a complete transformation. Today with the rise in hybrid working and expectation of employee personal choice, use of the workplace has become completely unpredictable. In order for workplace and real estate leaders to effectively manage space and serve today's employees, they need to fully understand physical space and how people are using it in real-time. This ability is called spatial intelligence, and VergeSense is the leader in providing these insights, which lead to reduced real estate costs, improved employee retention, and better sustainability.
VergeSense is the leading workplace analytics platform used by innovative Fortune 500 companies across the world. These businesses use VergeSense to transform their static office into a dynamic workplace that matches today's employee needs and expectations. Powered by intelligent sensors and AI-driven insights, customers rely on VergeSense to reduce or reinvest real estate, improve building operations, and create spaces that meet today's employee expectations.
The RoleVergeSense is seeking a Firmware Director to lead the end-to-end development/delivery/maintenance of VergeSense’s embedded software. Successful candidates will have led firmware teams across multiple products at different life-cycle stages and operate in a data-first paradigm. Reporting to the VP of Connected Devices the Firmware Director will thrive in a high-growth, fluid, and metrics-oriented environment, with a deep passion for delivering value to customers.
What You'll Do:
• Leads teams of firmware, QA, and machine learning engineers to develop
• Foster an environment that is supportive and encourages autonomy - purpose of what people are working on should be clear and the method by which they get there should be in their control (not dictated)

• Champion the pervasive use of data - it doesn’t work if it’s not measured
• Dive in, on occasion, into the sausage making - review a design RFC, peer review a PR, help debug a customer issue. This isn’t core to the day-to-day but it’s key to understanding what is happening and how things work
• You’ll also work closely with hardware and operations teams to involve firmware in early-phase design and ensure the on-time shipment of hardware products.
Qualifications:
•Experience delivering firmware, leading teams of 15 or more, managing managers, and managing engineers
• Experience in a number of the following technologies; RTOS systems, Embedded Linux, C/C++, wireless connectivity (WiFi, Cellular, 802.15), camera systems, low power/battery-powered systems.
•Exposure to computer vision / ML is nice to have
•Has worked to ship products at volume (>50k EAU) and support products in the field at volume (100k+ connected devices)
• Experienced with using data as the means to measure product performance. Ideally is comfortable with getting hands-on with data (pandas, SQL, R, etc)
