The Enzyme Services BD team within the Pharma Group is focused on applications of the Ginkgo Enzyme Services platform in the manufacture and development of APIs, diagnostics, and enzyme based therapeutics. We seek a technically trained business development professional who can effectively translate Ginkgo’s broad technical capabilities into meaningful enzyme services for Pharma customers.

Job Description:

Director of Business Development, Enzyme Services

As a member of the BD team in Enzyme Services, you will be part of a small team of folks passionate about the applications of enzymes in healthcare. Within healthcare our customers are diverse and Ginkgo’s platform capabilities are vast. So we are looking for someone who is capable of bridging the divide between our varied customers and our Foundries. Please be a self starter who has a track record of closing deals and references who can speak to your integrity and character.

Responsibilities:

  • Own a segment of the Enzyme Services business at Ginkgo with associated revenue and deal targets commensurate with experience
  • Represent Voice of Customer in Enzyme Pharma Product Group

  • Participate in the development of the Enzyme Services Group’s business and marketing strategy

  • Attend conferences to meet customers and stay on top of the latest developments in enzyme discovery and engineering, strain engineering, specific enzyme applications, possible partners and competitors

  • Serve on Joint Steering Committees as necessary

  • Continually refine Ginkgo’s pitch to incorporate new case studies and hone the message for your customer

Minimum Requirements:

  • MS/PhD in Chemistry / Biochemistry
  • Typically 8-10+ YOE plus PhD (or equivalent experience with a Bachelor's), including experience building and cultivating a team

  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and mobilize people across the organization, and to learn quickly and thrive in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience in a role requiring complex deal making or management consulting strongly preferred.

Preferred Capabilities and Experience:

  • MBA
  • Deal sheet commensurate with role

  • Interest and willingness to learn and continue learning

  • Prior experience within a fast-growth company or entrepreneurial environment is a plus.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to partner effectively with the executive team and cross-functional leaders throughout the company, and communicate thoughtfully to diverse stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated commitment, self-motivation, and drive, and enthusiasm about being a part of Ginkgo’s mission.

 

Total compensation for this role is market driven, with a starting salary of $180,000+, as well as company stock awards. Base pay is ultimately determined based on a candidate's skills, expertise, and experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental & vision coverage, health spending accounts, voluntary benefits, leave of absence policies, Employee Assistance Program, 401(k) program with employer contribution, 8 paid holidays in addition to a full-week winter shutdown and unlimited Paid Time Off policy.
