ABOUT THE POSITION:
Polk State College is hiring an Adjunct Instructor for Graphic Design to join the Digital Media Technology faculty team. The primary role of this position is to provide college-level instruction and instruction-related activities to encourage, support, and enable students' success. The position is a non-tenure track, term-to-term, temporary, faculty assignment. In this role, you will teach courses in graphic design, digital publishing, UI/UX, and myriad topics in digital media. Courses may be scheduled in the morning, afternoon, or evening sessions and are primarily offered in a face-to-face format.
We are seeking a faculty member who will be an effective instructor willing to explore creative strategies to help students master critical content in digital media. The chosen candidate must be committed to course planning, instructional preparation, personal learning, and most importantly, student success.
Candidates for this role will have strong academic credentials along with hands-on expertise in digital media and excellent instructional skills. We are seeking someone who has strong skills in graphic design and media principles and is also able to use industry-standard tools to demonstrate these principles, step-by-step, from conception to a fully realized, completed, professional product. In other words, someone who can explain the concepts well and demonstrate them through hands-on, professional projects.
The selected candidate will be patient, respectful, and able to communicate effectively with diverse students of varying economic and educational levels. He or she will care about students and be passionate about teaching effectively. The instructor will incorporate project-based learning as part of the instructional strategy and will actively infuse strategic assessments to inform pedagogical effectiveness.
Additionally, the instructor will welcome feedback in the classroom and embrace change if current instructional strategies are less than optimal. He or she will prepare relevant instructional content before classes, respond to emails promptly, and address student needs quickly and professionally.
If chosen, the instructor will work closely with the campus Academic Dean and the Department Coordinator or Program Director.
Adjuncts are paid at a rate of $37.38/hr.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:
* Teach courses in accobye and departmental policies and procedures, as well as Basic Course Information sheets.
* Prepare and submit timely grade reports and other reports on student performance as may be scheduled or required.
* Organize class activities and assignments, relating them to the overall learning outcomes of the course.
* Provide input and work with other faculty and staff to review, produce and/or, select course-related materials.
Required Skills:
* Extensive knowledge of the subject area(s) in which the individual is responsible for instruction.
* Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of effective communication and effective instruction.
* Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and challenges of community college students.
* Knowledge and understanding of principles of curriculum development.
Additional Requirements:
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Digital Media, Film, Graphic Arts, Television, or another Electronic Media field from a regionally accredited college or university; or a Master's degree with 18 graduate credit hours in Digital Media, Film, Graphic Arts, Television, or another Electronic Media field.
Required Experience:
Teaching experience is preferred.
