Position Overview

Amatriot (formerly GovTact) is seeking a DevOps Engineer to support a mission-critical program for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This is a remote position supporting a federal government environment.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), AWS cloud services, and automation, with a strong interest in expanding their DevOps skill set in a secure, compliance-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design, implement, test, and deploy Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform in AWS environments
2. Develop, automate, and maintain cloud infrastructure and services, primarily within AWS
3. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins
4. Configure and manage EC2 instances, security groups, and IAM roles/policies
5. Develop and maintain Python-based automation, including AWS integrations using Boto3 and Botocore
6. Manage secure access to systems using SSH, RDP, and proper credential management
7. Support database connectivity and configurations, including secure access and integration with applications
8. Monitor infrastructure health and performance; assist with troubleshooting and issue resolution as experience grows
9. Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders using tools like Git, Jira, and Confluence
10. Follow best practices for security, compliance, and documentation in a federal cloud environment

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience)
2. Hands-on experience with Terraform (required)
3. Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) in cloud environments
4. Strong working knowledge of Git (required)
5. Python development experience (required), including:
6. Boto3 and Botocore for AWS automation (required)
7. Experience managing or configuring:
8. IAM roles and policies (required)
9. AWS Security Groups (required)
10. Familiarity with secure shell (SSH) access and system configuration
11. Understanding of database concepts, including DBMS fundamentals and SQL
12. Comfortable working in Linux-based environments

Preferred Qualifications

1. 1–4 years of professional experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, or related roles
2. Experience with Jenkins and Jenkinsfile pipelines
3. Experience with AWS services, including:
4. EC2
5. Lambda functions and configurations (nice to have)
6. CloudFormation (less critical currently)
7. Experience with Ansible or other configuration management tools
8. Bash scripting experience
9. Knowledge of containers (Docker) and container orchestration concepts
10. Familiarity with ECS (future development focus)
11. Basic understanding of AWS networking concepts, including VPCs and routing
12. Experience with Linux patching and system maintenance
13. Familiarity with unit testing practices
14. Exposure to PyMySQL or similar database libraries
15. Experience with Golang (nice to have, not required)
16. Experience using Jira and Confluence in an Agile environment
