The company is a growing, values-driven community with teams across the US, UK, and Australia. Everyone shares a common goal: to unify school communities, elevate education quality, and improve learning experiences.

Veracross operates as a global technology company with five distinct product brands:

  1. Veracross SIS: a unified, one-person, one-record school management platform
  2. Magnus Health: cloud-based Student Health Record (SHR) solutions
  3. Digistorm: tools that connect schools with their communities through websites, funnels, and apps
  4. Epraise: a platform that supports student well-being while connecting teachers, students, and families
  5. Firefly: an online learning environment for students and educators

About the Role:

Veracross is hiring its first Developer Experience (DevEx) Engineer. This role sits at the crossroads of platform engineering, tooling, automation, and AI-first development. You will take ownership of the systems, standards, and integrations that help engineering teams move faster, stay consistent, and effectively use agentic workflows across a diverse, multi-language codebase that includes Ruby on Rails, PHP/Laravel, C#, and Java.

This is a high-impact role with strong autonomy. You will work closely with engineering leadership to shape and execute the 2026 AI-first engineering roadmap, acting as the link between tools, teams, and processes.

What to Expect:

  1. Contribute meaningfully to both individual and team-level engineering initiatives
  2. Advocate for developer tooling through training sessions, workshops, and internal demos
  3. Build and improve tooling, workflows, and platform capabilities that enable efficient, high-quality software delivery
  4. Own GitHub platform management, including pipelines and repository standards
  5. Modernize and standardize the development ecosystem, from repository structure to CI/CD pipelines and AI-assisted workflows
  6. Use AI tools and agents to generate code, debug issues, write tests, and improve performance
  7. Establish and promote best practices for AI instruction files across repositories
  8. Provide mentorship on tooling, best practices, and AI-first development approaches
  9. Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to turn requirements into scalable workflows
  10. Ensure DevEx tooling integrates smoothly with core platforms such as SIS, Admissions, and Fundraising systems
  11. Enhance internal tools through automation and intelligent integrations across the development lifecycle
  12. Document systems, architecture, and processes for both human and AI consumption
  13. Improve contextual data within AI systems to produce more accurate and effective outputs
  14. Build and maintain integrations with commonly used third-party systems

Requirements:

  1. Strong experience with GitHub administration, including Actions, Advanced Security, Dependabot, and branch protection
  2. Proven ability to build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in complex, multi-repository environments
  3. Hands-on experience with GitHub Actions or similar tools at scale
  4. Ability to troubleshoot performance, data flow, and integration issues across multiple stacks
  5. Proficiency in at least one scripting or backend language such as Ruby, Python, PHP, or TypeScript
  6. Experience using AI coding tools like GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Codeium, or custom agents
  7. Skill in prompt engineering to guide AI toward high-quality outputs
  8. Strong focus on developer productivity, clean code, and automation
  9. Familiarity with AI-assisted testing, coverage analysis, and automated documentation
  10. Experience using AI for code reviews, refactoring, and repository improvements
  11. Excellent communication skills, especially for technical documentation
  12. Strong organizational and planning abilities
  13. Comfortable working in a remote, asynchronous environment
  14. Collaborative mindset with flexibility and adaptability
  15. At least 4 years of professional programming or platform engineering experience
  16. Experience with relational databases and SQL optimization
  17. Proficiency with Git and modern version control workflows
  18. Team-first, service-oriented approach
  19. Authorization to work in the United States

Nice to Haves:

  1. Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) and MCP server integration
  2. Familiarity with RESTful APIs and partner integrations
  3. Advanced SQL and database optimization skills
  4. Experience modernizing legacy systems and migrating to new technologies
  5. Understanding of backend architecture and its impact on developer workflows
  6. Experience with AWS services, especially ECS for containerized deployments
  7. Familiarity with tools like Datadog, Sentry, Jira, or Confluence
  8. Contributions to open-source developer tooling projects

How We Think About This Role:

Developer experience acts as a force multiplier. The right person will not just maintain tools but expand what every engineer can achieve. This role is ideal for someone energized by AI-assisted development, grounded in strong engineering principles, and capable of driving adoption and change across teams.

This is an opportunity to help define what it means to be a developer in 2026 within the organization.
