THE DAY IN A LIFE AS A DRAFTER/DESIGNER

As a Designer/Drafter 70 percent of your time will be designing/drafting and 30 percent will consist of meetings, contracts, filing, project management, and researching new information. This role is perfect for someone that has industry experience in Fountains and/or Pools. We are open to relocation for the right candidate.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

The Designer/Drafter is responsible for assisting the OTL Design Team in the production of 2D & 3D design documents, as well as establishing, supervising, and maintaining formal design standards and practices. This is a full-time position based in our Anaheim, California office reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering & Pre-construction.

  • Develops clear, concise design, and drafting standards that become the hallmark of all future OTL design documents
  • Take conceptual renderings, outlines, and sketches and prepares professional, relevant, and informative design drawings in a traditional SD -> DD -> CD format with sufficient and accurate information
  • Provide training, motivation, and management of downstream drafters and designers, enabling OTL’s design capabilities to grow while also becoming more cost competitive
  • Investigates ongoing developments in design/drafting software & hardware and presents a cost-benefit analysis to senior management for those that have applications to our design and construction process
  • Utilizes knowledge and skill sets to aid Operations staff in the construction & commissioning phases
  • Creates, evaluates, and modifies existing OTL formats, templates, details and CAD standards into a cohesive and attractive design product that can be identified as “an OTL design,” free of spelling errors, incorrect product information and non-constructible elements
  • Works towards OTL’s goal of providing our designs in 3D formats that can be fully integrated into client models as well as be accessible to field construction crews to aid in installation
  • Able to take client models and extract relevant base data for the production of OTL designs and work with client models in Navisworks platform to evaluate clash detection
  • Attend design coordination meetings, determine OTL actionable items, and resist commitments to provide scope outside of contract
  • Presents findings on new design technology & related research along with cost-benefit analysis in an understandable manner
  • Work with PE/PA staff (as requested) to submit the correct product information for review & approval
  • Work with PM/PE (as requested) to assist in developing accurate and thorough Operations & Maintenance Manuals, as well as any other required post-construction documentation

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Civil) is ideal
  • Must have experience with Fountains and/or Swimming Pool industry
  • Ability to acquire understanding and absorb information rapidly, while being a clear and agile thinker
  • Consistent logic, rationality, and objectivity in decision making
  • Deals effectively with tangible issues and abstract conceptual matters
  • Generate new approaches to problems or innovations to established best practices
  • Determine opportunities and threats through comprehensive analysis of current and future trends, while understanding the big picture
