Job Summary

Data Analyst- Cancer Genomics and Epigenomics


The MGH Center for Cancer Research is looking for a data analyst to study cancer genomics and epigenomics. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team working on rigorous analysis of next generation sequencing data (DNA, RNA, chromatin, single-cell omics) and other multi-omics datasets from tumor and normal samples.


The ideal candidate has a strong computational background, actively seeks solutions to challenges and enjoys working in a small team-environment.


Responsibilities:


  1. Apply existing and novel algorithms to cancer data sets, critically review, analyze and visualize results.


  1. Design, implement and develop analysis approaches, workflows and novel software tools for large multi-omics data sets (genomic, transcriptomic, epigenomic and proteomic data).


  1. Contribute to quantitative molecular analysis pipelines under the supervision of staff or faculty, including:


  1. Assisting with hypothesis generation and experimental design


  1. Performing downstream data processing, quality control, and statistical analysis


  1. Interpreting and visualizing results for internal and external presentations


  1. Assist senior team members with curation, organization, and maintenance of large datasets and related metadata.


  1. Support and train new users on analysis workflows and tools; help standardize best practices for multi-omic and proteomic data analysis.


  1. Present results effectively to clinicians, experimental biologists, and computational scientists in lab meetings and collaborative discussions.


Qualifications:


  1. B.A./B.S/M.S. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biology, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field


  1. Strong interest in cancer research; prior experience in this area is an advantage


  1. Demonstrated independence, strong self-motivation, and ability to prioritize and organize work.


  1. Excellent programming skills in Python or R (both preferred)


  1. Familiarity with software engineering practices and algorithms, including version control (e.g., Git) and reproducible workflows.


  1. Comfort using Word, Excel, Powerpoint or Google Docs to summarize and communicate results between team members


  1. Strong written and verbal communication skills and fluency in English


  1. Ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams consisting of physicians, experimental scientists, statisticians and software engineers

Bachelor's Degree Analytics required or Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required

  2. Proficient time management and project management skills.
  3. Ability to exercise sound judgments to make decisions within scope of job responsibilities.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications.
  5. Solid quantitative, analytical and technical aptitude skills.
  6. Participate in dealing with all levels of employees /management and building proficient relationships with teams and all organizational customers.
  7. Able to find and define problems, understand business impact, identify solutions and provide recommendations for corrective action.
