About the Job

Esprit is seeking a fashion-savvy Copywriter with retail brand experience to join its New York-based team. Reporting into the brand’s Editorial Director, the role of Copywriter will help create and develop the voice and tone of the Esprit brand across all categories—Women’s, Men’s, Kids, and Home—crafting engaging copy that compliments the visual and storytelling elements developed by the in-house team.

 

 

Working alongside the creative and marketing teams, this role will help champion and maintain the integrity of the Esprit brand voice, as well as its cohesive delivery across marketing channels, with a primary focus on social and paid media. The Copywriter role will work closely with the Editorial Director and cross-functional partners at all levels to develop appropriate on-brand copy and concepts for any given project, season, or campaign. The right candidate is at ease in a fast-paced marketing environment and is comfortable understanding and writing to creative based on ideas and inputs from marketing, product, and e-commerce teams. The ideal applicant is curious, optimistic, and highly collaborative.

 

 

The Copywriter role will have a dedicated focus to social and paid media copy, partnering closely with the Social Media Manager and Social Graphic Designer roles to deliver catchy, relevant branded content. The ability to work thoughtfully under tight deadlines in an ever-changing work environment is a must.

Your Main Responsibilities

• Under the guidance of the Editorial Director, execute a range of brand copy deliverables on a weekly basis, delivering strategic brand messaging that meets business needs, including but not limited to: social and paid media, seasonal campaigns, product launches and stories, point-of-sale collateral, and any creative ad hoc requests.

 

 

• In partnership with the Editorial Director, ensure the Esprit brand voice is clear and consistent across the omni-channel customer journey, contributing to a cohesive editorial experience that both excites and engages.

 

 

• Partner with social media team leads on the ideation, execution, and proofing of all social assets.

 

 

• Help track editorial feedback and all elements of creative workstreams; attend kick-offs and creative reviews, and collaborate with marketing, merchant, and product design teams to ensure appropriate copy is delivered in a timely way.

 

 

• Partner with marketing strategy to help drive storytelling for the brand’s social media accounts, especially Instagram, drawing from industry knowledge around engaging content and how to align it to the brand’s core initiatives and storytelling verticals.

 

 

• Continually ascertain workflow efficiency and accurate completion of projects according to preset timelines, including graphic design workflow, production deadlines, and internal creative review cadences.

 

 

• Work independently to anticipate problems before they arise, help find solutions, and follow-up on own initiative. Help to ensure all copy has stylistic, strategic, and/or appropriate legal approvals.

 

 

Your Skills and Competencies

• B.A. in English, creative writing, advertising, or related field

 

 

• 2-4 years of in-house brand copywriting experience or agency experience, preferably in the retail space (no technical writers or journalists, please)

 

 

• Superb command of the English language and grammar

 

 

• Near-perfect editing and proofreading skills

 

 

• Ability to develop, adapt, and implement all language to adhere to the Esprit brand voice

 

 

• A strong and ongoing interest in fashion, including an understanding of relevant competitors and the general retail landscape, especially when it comes to digital content and social platforms

 

 

• Sound understanding of copywriting methods, tactics, and information architecture as it relates to campaign content creation and executing strategic omni marketing initiatives

 

 

• Sensitivity to cultural and linguistic differences across global markets

 

 

• Experience developing and contributing to an editorial content calendar

 

 

• The ability to receive constructive criticism in a team environment

 

 

• Familiarity with marketing and/or advertising creative processes and workflows

 

 

• Articulate thinker with a sense of humor and an ability to take creative direction, react quickly, and interact productively during creative reviews, brainstorm sessions, and kick-off meetings

 

 

• Proficiency in Mac platforms and Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint; proficiency in Keynote and Adobe Creative Suite strongly preferred; proficiency in social media management software such as Dash Hudson a plus
