Content Writer / Strategist - Must be located in Philadelphia

We are seeking a Content Writer / Strategist to support a major municipal website redesign effort. This is a contract position with an initial duration of approximately five months. The role is based onsite in Philadelphia, PA and requires presence five days per week. The Content Writer will lead content auditing, restructuring, and migration efforts from a legacy website to a new content management system, ensuring content is accurate, accessible, and aligned with established digital standards and equity goals.

What You’ll Do

1. Research, audit, write, and edit web content to support migration from a legacy platform to a new CMS
2. Restructure and rewrite existing content as needed to ensure clarity, accuracy, and usability
3. Translate complex government programs and services into clear, user-friendly language
4. Collaborate closely with internal departments, designers, and developers to validate migrated content
5. Identify and resolve content gaps, inconsistencies, and readiness issues prior to launch
6. Ensure all content aligns with established voice, tone, accessibility standards, and inclusion principles
7. Optimize content for readability, engagement, and digital delivery

What You’ll Bring

1. Extensive experience writing and editing content for government, public sector, or civic-focused websites
2. Strong familiarity with municipal services, programs, and community-facing content
3. Experience working with content management systems and digital publishing tools
4. Working knowledge of SEO fundamentals and content analytics
5. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

1. Prior experience supporting large municipal or government website redesigns
2. Experience writing or migrating content for public-sector digital platforms
3. Knowledge of plain language standards and accessibility guidelines such as WCAG
4. Experience collaborating with designers, developers, and communications teams
