Job Description:

Butier Engineering, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and diverse Construction Management Intern for our Summer 2024 internship program. This is a paid part-time/full-time position. Anticipated duration will be from May through August 2024 (flexible). The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a Project Manager and CM/Field Inspector and partner with specialty inspectors and sub-consultants. As required, this position may be assigned to a field office to encounter industry methods and equipment and to contribute to project construction support or field related engineering functions.

 

OUR CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT INTERNS:

  • Learn to develop and manage project scope, budgets, and schedules.
  • Gain exposure to compliance matters at the federal, state, and local levels by studying existing codes and ordinances as related to the application of construction management and engineering principals.
  • Work with construction and engineering personnel to work as a team and further projects.
  • Interface with the client’s representatives and contracted consultants.
  • Review the work of other personnel to assure accuracy and conformance to requirements.
  • Perform individual, routine tasks on a project to learn construction management practices and procedures.
  • Perform tasks involving routine CM calculations and the preparation of basic project activities.
  • Organize and track various project activities (i.e., material requisitions, vendor submittals etc.)
  • Prepare written material for routine reports.
  • Gather, organize, and maintain data sets for specific segments of a project.
  • Learn discipline specific software packages.
  • Perform assigned tasks with constant, vigilant, attention to safe work practices.
  • Review vendor bids to determine compliance with specifications.
  • Gain experience with materials and equipment associated with water/wastewater treatment, storage, and conveyance projects.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Pursuing Bachelor or Associate degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, construction management, or equivalent.
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Required Knowledge: Proficient with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Required Skills and Abilities: Possesses solid technical and problem-solving skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; self-motivated, detail oriented person; and honest, fun, hard-working, and ready to learn and grow.
  • Preferred Skills and Abilities: Experience with project management software applications (MS Project, Procore, Bluebeam, etc.)

  • Physical Demands: Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments. The work may require physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; climbing, twisting, bending, crouching, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting or carrying of moderately heavy items such as books, personal computer, record boxes, etc.
  • Work Environment: The work environment may require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., irritant chemicals, electrically energized equipment including high voltage systems, noise, dust, working at great heights, working under extreme outdoor weather conditions, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled. Construction site safety practices must be observed at all times, and personal protective equipment worn as required (e.g., hard hat, safety vest, safety goggles, steel toed boots, etc.).
