Help Wanted: Campus Outreach Director
The Center for Peace Communications is looking for a U.S.-based junior-level policy professional, with deep fluency in the polemics of the Middle East and the Arab-Israeli conflict, to fill the full-time position of Campus Outreach Director. Superb English communications skills are essential, Arabic fluency is a plus.
This person’s overall role is to promote CPC material on American college campuses. In particular, to engage campus student groups and to employ CPC’s reporting on Gaza in order to challenge the dominant, anti-Israel narratives that permeate much of academe. Key responsibilities include:
- Building connections with student groups: Establish working relationships with an array of student groups across the U.S. with the aim of hosting events on campus featuring CPC material. While Jewish and pro-Israel student groups are natural starting points, the ideal candidate will be able to forge connections with groups “oustide the echo chamber.” Networking skills are key, as is a willingness to travel.
- Organizing events: After an initial orientation of familiarizing yourself with CPC work product and communication style, the ideal candidate will coordinate with student groups to organize a minimum of 15 events in their first year, with a target tempo of 3-4 events per month.
- Running workshops: Some student groups will find CPC’s material a departure from their traditional discourse, and require mentoring to effectively incorporate it into their advocacy. The candidate will walk them through individual video reports, connect them to contemporary campus debates surrounding Israel, and offer guidance in defusing likely objections.
- Documenting outcomes: For each campus event, the Director will be responsible for documenting which groups participated, number of attendees, and securing footage of the event, in coordination with campus partners.
