This position is part of the Wood Products Raw Materials Procurement business supporting the Montana mills; the position is based in Columbia Falls, MT and will report to the Montana Area Raw Material Manager.
This position is responsible for the procurement, transportation and brokering of by-products (chips, sawdust, shavings, bark, boiler fuel and plywood core) for the three manufacturing facilities located in Kalispell and Columbia Falls, MT. By-product procurement and transportation must be executed using strategies that align with overall production, sustainability, finance, and marketing plans while managing long term relationships with suppliers. This position is also accountable for an entrepreneurial approach to understanding market conditions and associated opportunities.
Key Functions:
- Negotiate pricing agreements and create contracts for purchase and sale of by-products.
- Negotiate freight agreements and create contracts for the transportation of by-products.
- Develop strategies and make decisions that maximize opportunity and minimize risk.
- Work closely with mill management with focus to improve processes at log and By-Product handling infrastructure.
- Work with mill regarding capital planning and changes in production.
- Work closely with raw material team to manage pulp log inventories and costs.
- Create budgets, forecasts and road maps for by-product programs working closely with mill financial teams.
- Manage by-product deliveries and contracts through Log Inventory and Management System (LIMS).
- Develop relationships with key contacts to purchase and transfer by-products.
- Manage daily logistic issues, anticipate, and minimize interruptions.
- Manage By-Product contracted driver safety program.
- Create weekly and monthly inventory of by-products to support mill fiber usage.
- Represent Weyerhaeuser in key Industry groups.
- Work with mills and lab to promote By -Product Quality Controls.
- Relationship building with current and potential suppliers or customers.
- Data management, analysis, and sharing
- Participate in By-Product Lead Team
- Manage Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and PEFC Chain of Custody programs for Montana.
- Support By-Product program implementation efforts identified by the Lead Team
- Short- and Long-Term planning.
- Support energy strategy team in Montana.
Qualifications:
- BA or BS degree in Business, Marketing, Logistics, Forestry, or other applicable discipline
- Demonstrated safety record and commitment to workplace safety culture
- Contract negotiation experience
- Understanding of industrial safety processes and controls
- Ability to seek out and work with safe and reliable business partners
- Market knowledge of wood products manufacturing and by-products
- Ability to work closely with internal and external teams
- Supply agreement compliance understanding
- Understanding of environmental compliance
- Experience in Microsoft Business tools to support budgeting and planning
- Experience creating and managing forecasts and budgets
- Understanding of transportation and logistics
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build bridges and develop working partnerships
- UAV experience a plus but not required
- Ability to work across organizational/functional boundaries effectively
- Demonstrated team and leadership skills
- Development, replication, and execution of best practices
- Willingness to travel, in US and Canada and work away from home as needed (Approximately 20% travel)
