Behavioral Intervention Specialist - PT

Westbury, NY

AHRC, Nassau is a COMPASS and CQL accredited agency serving men and women with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities throughout Nassau County for more than 60 years. AHRC Nassau offers many services including positive behavior supports to those living in our residential setting as well as those attending our day programs. Positive behavior supports are intended to incorporate the needs of the whole person and are embedded into the everyday structure of a person’s life to help each person strive for their own success.

Full time and Part time Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) Positions available in the Residential and Day programs working with adults. All locations are in Nassau County. Schedule is Monday – Friday, flex hours.

BIS Qualifications:

  • Must have Master’s degree from a program in a clinical or treatment field of psychology, social work, school psychology, or applied psychology.
  • At least 5 years of experience working directly with people with developmental disabilities preferred, including the development, implementation, and monitoring of behavior support plans and/or providing supervision and training to others in the implementation of behavior support plans.

BIS Responsibilities include:

  • Provide individual, collateral, and/or group interventions
  • Perform Functional Behavior Assessments
  • Design and implement behavior programs
  • Provide staff training in basic behavior principles
  • Monitor individuals’ progress according to support plan
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences
  • Maintain clinical documentation and complete periodic reviews
  • Participate in regular supervisory contact with licensed psychologist, Assistant Director of Psychology or Senior behavioral intervention specialist
  • Provide crisis intervention
  • Provide agency wide training at new hire orientation in Positive Behavior Supports and other areas determined by the Psychology and Training departments. (full time clinicians)
  • Receives training for agency SCIP-R instructor and maintains certification on annual basis (full time clinicians)
