About the Position
An Assistive Technology (AT) Specialist coordinates services provided to accommodated students related to educational technology and curricular accessibility needs. An individual meets directly with students to assess their needs regarding technology and digital accessibility use, consulting on AT options that may mitigate the impact of the student’s disability. An individual reviews courses for students with known sensory disabilities to ensure that curricular content is accessible, coordinating the provision of reasonable alternatives as needed. An individual consults with faculty and staff, particularly with colleagues in the Student Accommodations Office, regarding curricular accessibility and AT use.
What You’ll Do
1. Oversee the acquisition and provision of accommodations including alternatively formatted materials, modifications, and communication services including live transcription and/or interpreting services. Serve as the department’s liaison to the University’s Technical Assistance Center (TAC).
2. Provide an overview of assistive technology (AT) to accommodated students, including a discussion of the common uses and benefits for those students who do not currently use AT, making recommendations and suggestions as needed regarding AT adoption. Provide guidance to students who do utilize AT regarding how tools may interact with technology in use at the University, providing coaching and instruction as needed.
3. Maintain current knowledge of AT principles, tool development and best practices to advise department leadership on the AT program at the University and make recommendations for improvement.
4. Provide updates and guidance for Student Accommodations Office (SAO) staff on developments in assistive technology tools, coordinating trainings and writing knowledge-base articles as needed.
5. Conduct reviews of classroom for accommodated students with sensory disabilities to ensure accessibility concerns are addressed proactively. Works with faculty on access concerns in the curriculum and partners with the College for alternatives, when necessary.
6. Responsible for direct work with students. Assist faculty and SAO specialists to implement accommodations and accessibility guidance.
7. Participate in the development and implementation of University policies regarding accessibility standards and benchmarks.
8. Perform other duties as required or apparent.

Pay Range
The annual pay range for this position is $49,000 (minimum), $71,700 (midpoint), and $94,400 (maximum).*
