Job Description:

Meier Partners Architects is world-renowned for creating innovative, critically acclaimed architecture. Our best-known projects include The Getty Center in Los Angeles, the High Museum in Atlanta, the Jubilee Church in Rome and most recently the Sorol Museum in South Korea. We are seeking an Archivist to provide documentation and care for the firm’s archive, art and collections.

This position will be to manage all activities related to the organization, preservation, documentation, exhibition and storage of architectural drawings, models, sketches, slides, photographs, audio/video and presentation materials, publications, project files, collages, lithographs, sculpture, awards, licenses, product design objects, in-house publications inventory. Formats include both paper and digital assets. We welcome you to join our team as an Archivist and contribute to the preservation and accessibility of our organization's valuable archives.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Design and manage paper and electronic databases for the inventory, describing condition, and location of objects in the collection and on loan.
  • Ensure staff compliance with archiving procedures.
  • Evaluate archive materials for disposal or transfer to permanent archives.
  • Scan artworks (collage, sketches, oils etc) for inventory identification purposes and prepare for professional photography.
  • Manage and create lists for administrative use, such as project lists, book gift lists, exhibition list, donation list, award list.
  • Consult with project architects on materials selection for archives.
  • Review current inventory of off-site file storage for compliance with Document Retention Policy.
  • Supervise the organization and maintenance of in-house and off-site storage spaces.
  • Review electronic file storage strategies in cooperation with senior staff and IT for possible new procedures.
  • Review established inventory protocols and documentation and storage strategies for all materials.
  • Respond to requests for archived materials/objects/information.
  • Maintain a record of architectural book purchases.
  • Order frames for artwork and maintain inventory.
  • Maintain inventory of items at the Mana Museum in Jersey City.
  • Organization and maintenance of the firm’s Product Library and Sample Room.
  • Order new product catalogs and update old catalogs.
  • Organize and manage the firm’s product catalog library and the maintenance of catalog database.
  • Monitor location of catalogs in studio and consult with architects regarding new additions to library.
  • Organize and coordinate the shipping, receiving, packing, and unpacking of works of art and models and act as primary contact for any model loans or exhibitions.

Qualifications/skills:

  • Candidate will have a Masters (preferred) in Library Science or Master of Arts
  • Two years or more experience in the field performing similar tasks.
  • Knowledge of best professional practices in handling archival materials and records management principles and systems.
  • Will need to work independently and part of the office team and communicate with staff at all levels.
  • Must have excellent computer skills using the Microsoft Suite.

Work will be in New York and off-site at our Model Museum in Jersey City.
