AI Prompt Engineer- Voice Agents

We are seeking a Prompt Engineer to design, test, and optimize prompts for our next-generation Voice AI agents. This role sits at the intersection of conversational design, AI, and real-time call operations.

You will work closely with our Manager of Performance Call Systems to translate proven human conversation strategies into high-performing AI prompts that drive better caller experience, higher engagement, and improved conversion outcomes.

This position is remote (hybrid available if within commuting distance to Boulder, CO) and open to candidates living in the following locations:

A Day in the Life

Prompt Design & Development

1. Translate call scripts, business rules, and conversational strategies into structured prompts for voice AI agents
2. Design prompts that guide natural, human-like conversations while maintaining control, compliance, and business objectives

Collaboration with Manager of Performance Call Systems

1. Partner with Manager of Performance Call Systems to understand intent, tone, objection handling, and conversion tactics
2. Convert qualitative guidance into precise, testable prompt logic

Testing & Iteration

1. Continuously test prompts in real-world call scenarios
2. Analyze call transcripts, outcomes, and performance metrics to refine prompts
3. Iterate quickly to improve performance (e.g., connection rates, transfer rates, call duration, caller satisfaction)

Conversation Optimization

1. Improve how agents:Ask qualifying questions
2. Handle objections
3. Transition between conversation stages
4. Manage edge cases and unexpected responses

Cross-Functional Collaboration with Product & Engineering

1. Identify limitations where desired agent behavior cannot be achieved through prompt design alone
2. Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to:
3. Define requirements for system-level enhancements (e.g., memory, state handling, integrations, orchestration logic)
4. Improve agent capabilities beyond prompt-layer control
5. Ensure alignment between prompt logic and underlying platform behavior
6. Act as a key stakeholder in shaping the evolution of the voice AI platform based on real-world conversational gaps

Documentation & Prompt Frameworks

1. Maintain clear documentation of prompt structures, patterns, and best practices
2. Help build a scalable prompt library for different use cases, verticals, and states

Here’s What You Need to Get Our Attention

1. 2+ years experience in an AI Engineering role working with LLMs / AI systems (e.g., GPT-based models, voice AI platforms, or similar)
2. A minimum of 1 year experience in prompt engineering with voice AI platforms (Ultravox, Twilio, VAPI, etc.)
3. Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in a related field of study
4. Excellent written communication skills with strong attention to tone, clarity, and intent
5. Strong ability to translate business requirements into structured logic or instructions
6. Experience with conversation design, scripting, or chatbot/voice agent development
7. Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and iterate quickly
8. Highly analytical, systems-oriented thinker
9. Comfortable working closely with product, data, and engineering teams

Compensation: $100,000-$120,000 DOE
