Under general supervision, performs accounting functions (expenditure reconciliations, reporting, monitoring accounts, etc.) using basic accounting principles and theories.

Under the executive director, the Accountant I will be a team player and assist with the accounting and financial administration of GCC programs, grants and projects to meet business objectives.

Workplace Requirements :
This position is 80% on-site and 20% off-site (after 90 days), most duties to be performed in-person at the BioScience Research Collaborative, Monday – Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Per Rice policy 440 , work arrangements may be subject to change.
Hiring Range : $48,700-$60,800
This position is partially funded by grants, soft and/or restricted funds. Continued employment may be contingent on the renewal of funding.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree
- In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted

Skills:
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database software

Essential Functions:
- Performs general accounting activities, including the preparation, maintenance and reconciliation of ledger accounts and financial statements
- Prepares, records, analyzes and reports accounting transactions and ensures the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with accepted accounting policies and principles
- Provides financial support including forecasting, budgeting, and analyzing variations from the budget
- Analyzes and prepares accounts, financial statements and reports
- Conducts or assists in the documentation of accounting projects
- Identifies, prioritizes, and resolves financial issues; probes beyond stated situation; identifies underlying issues; recognizes exceptions; performs preliminary analysis
Additional Functions
- Interfaces and exchanges information with Research Accounting
- Enters proposal information in Cayuse and tracks awards and subawards with non-Rice institutions
- Tracks invoices for specified awards under Rice.
- Interfaces with iO for labor redistributions
- Handles Pcard and travel receipts, reimbursements for staff and guests
- Performs other duties on a timely basis and as needed
