ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Student Success division at the University of South Florida, is comprised of 60 departments, providing students with academic support, engagement opportunities, health & wellness services and enhancement of the educational experience.

The Academic Services team, which has a dual report to Undergraduate Studies and Athletics, provides services, programming, functions and outreach for USF student-athletes that results in satisfactory academic progress and graduation of student-athletes. Academic Services maintains a staff of 10 full-time employees, a team of 4-6 post-baccalaureate interns and full complement of tutorial staff to serve a community of approximately 500 student-athletes representing 19 NCAA Division I sport programs.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Academic Coordinator (working title) in Undergraduate Studies/Academic Services in Athletics will provide academic support services for the football program as well as an Olympic sport program. This position is responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of academic support programming and academic progress monitoring for the assigned student-athlete caseload. This includes preparing and analyzing reports, leading and participating in meeting with coach staff and administration, participation in university committees and meetings, and conducting one-on-ones with staff and student-athletes. The position will report to the Assistant Director of Football and must adhere to all NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Development and Coordination of Academic Support:

  • Responsible for proactive and strategic planning involving support, advising, mentoring and development of current, former and future student-athletes.
  • Conduct weekly academic meetings with student-athletes.
  • Provide consistent follow-up via electronic communication to faculty in request of grade status and attendance information.
  • Facilitate tutorial registration.
  • Supervise structured academic support sessions.
  • Conduct regular meetings with coaches and applicable administration.
  • Meet with prospective student-athletes and their families to discuss the area of academic support and development


Advising and Academic Planning:

  • Advise and counsel new and continuing student-athletes in accordance with the assessment of student academic record information.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date degree plans and strategically advising student-athletes in accordance with the rules and regulations set for per the NCAA, American Athletic Conference and USF while working a "student-focused" approached aimed at meeting academic and career goals.


Reporting, Data Tracking, Eligibility and Certification:

  • Create and manage individual Academic Success Plans (ASPs) for all assigned student-athletes.
  • Provide detailed and timely grade reports and updates on the academic progress of all assigned student-athletes.
  • Responsible for the monitoring and tracking of continuing eligibility for all assigned student-athletes, including management of applicable reports.
  • Collaborate with Academic Services, Athletics Compliance and University Registrar's Office in support of the Athletics certification process.
  • Responsible for completion and distribution of End of Semester report for assigned sports.
  • Responsible for completing and maintaining applicable eligibility reports and confirming transfer assessments completed by Assistant University Registrar.


Committees and Program Administration:

  • Represent Academic Services in meetings and on select committees across UGS and campus.
  • Assist with Campus Appreciation Events.


Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling or academic field directly related to the Advisor's specific responsibilities with a minimum of one year of experience in advising or related academic functions within higher education. 4 years of directly related work experience may substitute for bachelor's degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree with a minimum of one year of progressively responsible experience in advising, athletics, or related academic functions within higher education. Experience working with student-athletes coaches, support staff and administration in an intercollegiate athletics department at the Division I level and experience utilizing Teamworks and Retain preferred. Preferred degree in Education, Counseling or academic field directly related to the Advisor's specific responsibilities.
