This position is within ITW’s Zip-Pak division. Zip-Pak is the global leader in resealable solutions for the flexible packaging industry. Our expertise in zipper, application technology, and packaging systems makes Zip-Pak the primary choice of brand owners, OEM’s, and converters for innovative resealable solutions. Zip-Pak’s lean, modern, and continuous manufacturing environments produce zippers using high-volume plastic extrusion. The division has +300 employees, 6 global manufacturing sites and presence in North America, South America, Europe, and Australia.

Purpose & Scope:

The HR Generalist will provide day-to-day professional HR support and policy administration across the division, with a primary focus on the non-exempt workforce. The HR Generalist will serve as a trusted HR partner and advisor to departmental leaders to carry out responsibilities in the following functional areas: Employee Relations, Wellness and Benefits, Compensation, Recruitment, and Performance & Talent Management. He or she will be able to work autonomously and efficiently to ensure the smooth running of HR projects and operations and be able to contribute to the attainment of specific goals and results of the HR department and the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

· HR Generalist support for 3 NA plants. This role will sit in Ottawa, IL and may require occasional travel to Atlanta, GA or Manteno, IL.

· Provides coaching and support to front line management in solving employee relations issues, such as policy violations, attendance concerns, and performance issues

· Coach business leaders and their teams on development of others. Helps identify developmental opportunities for talent pipeline within the business unit and tracks progress on development action plans

· Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reports comply. Plays an active role in the development of the Affirmative Action Plan within business units. Ensures compliance with required legal postings on bulletin boards

· Inputs and maintains employee data in the HRIS system such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, terminations, and employee statistics for reporting. Prepares regular or special reports using HRIS

· Reviews existing human resources policies and procedures within the business units for which they are responsible, and initiates changes as necessary to ensure compliance with law, corporate policies, and business objectives

· Conducts and analyzes wage survey data. Maintains position descriptions and market comparisons

· Manages the division performance review and compensation processes for non-exempt employees

· Disability Management process owner for the division, including running a highly effective return-to-work process

· Supports HR with recruitment activities for the division

· Lead or participate in HR projects

· Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

Formal Education & Certification

· BS/BA in Human Resources, Business Administration, or relevant field

Knowledge & Experience:

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in human resources including knowledge of recruitment processes, benefit and compensation administration and practices, employee relations, and legal compliance requirements
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills; demonstrates good listening skills; able to communicate status on process with colleagues, keep team members informed, and responds clearly to employee inquiries. Demonstrates a positive and friendly attitude in working with all levels within the organization
  • Independent and organized work style: Effectively manage time and prioritize work load, assume and manage multiple tasks without close supervision, adapt to change, and consistently meet deadlines. Ability to make independent decisions and regularly suggest ways to improve services and processes
  • Strong technical skills / aptitude: Proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Outlook, PPT and Excel). Experience with Workday HRIS System preferred Ability to use good judgment and discretion with highly confidential business and employee information
  • Ability to prepare reports, presentations, analyses using Microsoft Office
  • Ability to effectively handle pressure and challenges
  • The capability to take proactive steps in managing problems
