About the role

 

The position is at an edtech company. This is not the typical leadership role. As a company, we have often sacrificed maximum growth in a deliberate effort to grow responsibly. We expect this role, as a member of the executive team, to fully embrace our Guiding Business Principle, which states that we strive to balance growth in three dimensions: revenue and profitability, impact toward our mission, and team experience.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Lead our systems of performance such as role leveling, evaluation, and compensation.
  • Manage our employee relations function, handling employee issues, incidents, grievances, and conflicts in ways that align with our values of Relationships and Growth and are in legal compliance.
  • Oversee systems and processes that are designed to support and assess company-wide employee experience such as our employee engagement survey and cultural committees.
  • Ensure that our policies and practices comply with all relevant federal and state labor laws and regulations.
  • Support the design and management of our benefits program in collaboration with our Head of Operations.
  • Work in partnership with our Head of DEI to ensure that our core people programs and processes are in support of a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace.
  • Travel to San Mateo, California, headquarters or other locations at least 2-3 times each quarter to collaborate with team members in person.

 

Qualifications

While experience in K-12 education technology is desirable, we are open to people from other fields.

 

As a generalist, you have led and managed a variety of core HR functions in your career. You design, enhance, and implement HR processes in a human-centered, fair, and compassionate way. You are a clear communicator and empathetic listener who cultivates psychological safety, openness, and compassion in challenging conflicts and employee issues. You value diversity, equity, and inclusion, and you work vigilantly to ensure policies and processes are fair and equitable.

Pay: $160k to $250k annually.
