Job Description:

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a dedicated and dynamic team member to serve as a Volunteer Engagement Specialist for the Habitat and Thrivent Worldwide (HTW) program. Working closely with our global Area Offices, local Habitat National Office and Affiliate staff, and trained volunteer leaders, the Volunteer Engagement Specialist will provide support and oversight in all aspects of coordinating the volunteer experience for one of HFHI’s internationally and US focused volunteer short-term build programs, HTW. This position will be a member of the highly collaborative Habitat and Thrivent Partnership team working closely with HFHI’s Volunteer department to ensure operational coordination with HFHI Global Village and with our partner, Thrivent.

This position can be remote within the U.S. and requires 10% travel.

ESSENTIALS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee, coordinate, and manage all aspects of the volunteer experience working in close collaboration with Thrivent staff and with other HFHI departments which includes: managing and strengthening relationships with Team Leaders, institutions, and host country programs; responding quickly and accurately to inquiries/requests; providing coaching and training; insuring that volunteer screening, matching, and booking is handled professionally and in a timely manner; monitoring and maintaining accurate records and databases; sustaining ongoing communication with team leaders throughout the pre- and post-build experience and program evaluation. (30%)
  • Serve as a primary contact for the HTW program with staff and leadership from assigned HFHI Area Office and HFH National Offices and be knowledgeable on the area’s dynamic needs. (10%)
  • Form a deep understanding of both Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent to ensure strategic alignment, mutually beneficial goals, and effective operational coordination. (10%)
  • Monitors program implementation and utilizes VOC insights to provide ongoing feedback, coaching and training as needed to ensure high quality affiliate sites and team leaders. (5%)
  • Respond quickly and accurately to inquiries/requests, immediately following-up with screening, matching, booking, coaching, and training, monitoring of records and databases, and maintaining ongoing communication with volunteer program leaders throughout the pre and post project experience. (10%)
  • Maintain and update program-related resources such as itineraries, budgets, and information for external marketing. (10%)
  • Work closely with the finance team to ensure accurate and timely distribution of funds to volunteer program leaders and/or receiving country programs. (10%)
  • Ensure timely reporting and accurate completion of other internal processes as needed. (5%)
  • Work on strategic projects to improve and develop new products, services, and processes as assigned by supervisor. (5%)
  • Represent Habitat for Humanity and the Thrivent Partnership at conferences, trainings, and site visits. (5%)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of related experience in program and volunteer management.
  • Experience working in a program or project with global contexts.
  • Previous program management experience, including experience with budgets.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build coalitions and work in cross-cultural settings.
  • Proven written and oral communication skills.
  • Critical analytical skills, especially in situations where the issues are not fully defined.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to meet multiple and competing deadlines.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team, with experience in volunteer relationship management.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft software, internet, and basic office equipment

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS (in addition to minimum):

  • Certification in Volunteer Administration (CVA) or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience working with multicultural teams and in cross-cultural settings.
  • Fluency in a second language.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Previous experience in relationship management, coaching and training, and travel coordination.

The target hiring range for this position is $45,305 - $50,635 per year. For work locations in the US, the salary range for this position is between $42,600 - $64,000 per year.

The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience.
