Flight Works, Inc. is a growing OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) of advanced components and systems for aerospace, medical, and other applications. We are seeking a dynamic, result-focused, hands-on Senior Avionics Development Engineer to take a leading role the development of our space electronics products (hardware and firmware). The position provides the opportunity for exposure to many disciplines, systems, and technologies in a fast-paced environment, where you will be working on the development of new space products.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Senior Avionics Development Engineer is to take a leading role in the development of our space electronics/avionics firmware/software, from concept to validation in an agile environment. These include:
- Work with others to define/refine/decompose avionics firmware needs and requirements
- Lead the development and implementation of solutions, from architecture definition to component selection (such as processors)
- Develop, verify, and validate firmware/software; manage software configurations
- Work closely with avionics development engineers for board and system design
- Perform FMECA and reliability analysis as needed
- Coordinate activities across avionics hardware and software development team (Optional)
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline
- 4+ years of experience developing firmware/software, from the ground up for advanced aerospace products/applications
- Ability to handle ambiguous requirements and take ownership of the development projects
- Experience writing low-level firmware for microcontrollers such as ARM, PIC, defining interfaces and debugging Experience working with hardware such as ADC, SPI, I2C, UART, RS422, PWM
- Highly self-motivated and able to handle concurrent tasks requiring various sets of skills at multiple stages of the product development cycle
- Able to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, and management
- "US Person” eligible to receive technical data controlled under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) or the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR)
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in developing firmware for critical applications
- M.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline
- Embedded development experience with RTOS, C, C++, Python, Forth, Assembly, user interfaces
- Experience with space avionics hardware and firmware/software (launch vehicle, spacecraft….)
- Experience debugging software under schedule pressure, including remotely
- Experience with FMECA and reliability analysis
- Experience in coordinating tasks across avionics hardware or software development team
Salary and responsibility commensurate with experience and qualifications
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
