Scientist I - Pathology

Onsite in Irvine, CA

1 year contract (renewable)

Hourly Pay Rate: $40-43/hr (Employee benefits available at a cost)

 

The Irvine Pathology Laboratory, as part of Local Deliver Translational Science (LDTS) is responsible for developing, validating and performing investigative pathology-based methods to help pathologists and other scientists characterize compound induced effects related to target organ injury in animal and human tissue, characterize animal models of disease, develop target engagement endpoints, characterize local drug biodistribution, and address other key questions that advance drug discovery and development for eyecare, aesthetics and botulinum toxin projects.

 

The Pathology Scientist I, as part of the Pathology lab in LDTS at the Irvine, California site is responsible for developing, validating and applying immunohistochemistry (IHC), fluorescence microscopy, histochemistry/cytochemistry methods, as well as automated image and data interpretation, to support non-clinical safety and discovery research studies. The Pathology scientist I will work closely with supervisor and other colleagues to share oversight of day-to-day IHC lab operations, including purchasing supplies, equipment maintenance and safety compliance.

 

As a member of a small team, this individual will perform IHC and utilize their expertise to contribute to the successful completion of non-clinical safety and other investigative studies. This individual should be a detail-oriented self-starter who is eager to learn and thrives in a collaborative, fast paced environment, with a desire to make an impact by interacting closely with scientists in the Pathology lab as well as scientific staff in other departments and at other sites.

 

Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Assay development and validation for immunohistochemistry (IHC), using both immunofluorescent and chromogenic detection systems.
  • Develop and apply image analysis techniques to histology data interpretation.
  • Develop and apply in situ hybridization (ISH) methods as needed.

 

Education and experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education with typically 5 years of experience, or master's degree or equivalent education with typically two years of experience.
  • Experience in immunohistochemistry assay development and digital pathology imaging
  • Experience in operating and maintaining IHC equipment such as autostainers, scanners, etc.
  • Ability to present the data in meetings and document the procedures and, including or contributing to writing formal reports for regulatory submissions.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively.

 

Preferred Experience

  • Pharmaceutical or related industry experience
  • ISH assay development
  • Fluorescence imaging experience, using Nanozoomer, 3DHistech, PhenoImager HT or confocal.
  • Image analysis using HALO or Visiopharm software.
  • Ventana autostainers or Bond RX
  • HTL or QIHC Certification preferred.
