DCI is seeking a manager for its research organization, DCI Labs, in Kent, Washington, is for responsible for research, innovation transfer to new products, and people management. This will be a “player/coach” position, with some management responsibilities and some direct technical contribution responsibilities. Requirements

What you’ll do:
Act as technical contributor in the DCI Labs team, participating in projects that will enhance the overall innovation content of our winning projects.
Maintain current knowledge of technological developments and trends in area of specialty, identify current and future technology needs, and introduce innovative technology to directly support on-going research activities. Foster, and contribute directly to, ideas and patent applications that expand DCI’s IP portfolio.
Manage and support the development of innovations relevant to our new and existing products, including the development of proof-of-concepts and transfers to New Product Introduction (NPI) projects.
Participate in roadmap planning, working closely with NPI teams, Product Management, and other key product sponsors to develop DCI Labs’ project goals consistent with corporate plans and goals.
Own competitive analysis for engineering, driving the process of measurements and teardowns for key competitors, writing reports, and feeding information to the NPI teams and to our legal team.
Provide reports to communicate project status to management, including accomplishments, risk and key upcoming milestones for scope, budget, schedule, and resources.
Prepare annual expense budgets and monitor and control activity to these plans.
Work in conjunction with other managers in R&D, Marketing, and various stakeholders to optimize the overall performance of the organization. This may include solving emerging issues with resources, processes, and products. It may include the development of long-term, medium term and short-term plans.
Hire, develop, and coach DCI Labs staff in accordance with company policies and procedures. Write performance evaluations, recommend appropriate salary increases and other job-related changes per established guidelines.

Requirements

8+ years of experience as an Engineer or Scientist with a bachelor's degree in a related field. Or 5+ years of experience as an Engineer or Scientist with a MS/MA or Ph.D. degree.
Must have 3+ years as a direct manager of an engineering staff
Excellent organization and multi-tasking skills. Able to manage multiple research projects at the same time.
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff, verbally & in writing.
Assertive interpersonal & problem-solving skills that build consensus & resolve issues.

Desired:
Design experience in Radio Frequency circuits at the PC Board level and with digital radio protocols and standards.
Experience working with a legal team from innovation through granted patent.
Proficiency in at least one of the following areas: Electricity and Magnetism; Sensors and Embedded Systems; Structures and Materials; Digital Signal Processing; Electronic Engineering; Embedded Software or Firmware; RF Design (especially at the circuit level); Digital Radio Modulation and Communication Protocols.

Compensation:
DCI is proud to offer comprehensive compensation packages including competitive base pay and discretionary quarterly profit sharing bonuses to all part-time and full-time team members. Base pay is reviewed at a minimum on an annual basis.
Pay range: $138,800 - 168,900 per year. To ensure equity, our compensation philosophy is to bring people into new roles in the range of the mid-point of that role. Factors considered for pay include the level of skill, experience, training, external market factors, and internal value.
Profit sharing bonus: Over the last 3 years, quarterly bonuses ranged between 11% and 27%. Future bonuses could be higher or lower depending on company profits.
