CUNY Online was launched in Spring 2022 at The City University of New York as the in-house online education and digital learning solution to enable CUNY colleges to expand and enhance their online program portfolios, support services for online students and expertise in online teaching and learning. CUNY Online is seeking talented eLearning Multimedia Design Specialists with multimedia design, production and post production expertise to create, edit, and publish hundreds of videos and interactive or experiential media learning objects/assets for the online courses we will develop on the instructional design team. You will use your visual design and technical knowledge related to graphic design and video production and apply the online pedagogical theories of how students learn with media to contribute to the development of high-quality asynchronous online courses and engaging and effective learning experiences. You will participate in the course development lifecycle by work closely with instructional designers, subject matter experts, and faculty members to leverage multimedia for learning content and activities to support specific course or project requirements, objectives and educational goals for neurodiverse learners. You will develop multimedia assets that incorporate sound adult learning principles to enhance and maximize student learning outcomes and are accessible through a variety of modalities and delivery methods. Reporting to the Director of Instructional Design for CUNY Online, the eLearning Multimedia Design Specialists could specialize in video or still/motion graphics and web design.

In addition to the job summary and CUNY Title Overview, other essential duties include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Conceptualize, plan, design, develop, shoot, film, and edit high quality and engaging learning and instructional design service-related content (e.g., graphics, animations, audio, videos, photographs).

  • Optimize content and media objects for publishing and deployment/distribution to appropriate learning management systems, websites, streaming platforms and digital accessibility.

  • Consult with and train instructional designers and faculty on the effective and purposeful design of video, motion/still graphics, print/web visual design, scripting/storyboarding and asset gathering.

  • Produce branded templates to produce video, web, print materials, LMS course sites, and other publishing platforms.

  • Address and manage media storage, hosting, streaming, and organizational solutions.

  • Coordinate video production across CUNY college campuses and in collaboration with college media teams and third-party vendors; oversee the logistics of remote recordings; direct onscreen performances.

  • Conduct on-going quality assurance and user testing and evaluate media effectiveness based on learning outcomes for existing courses and courses being developed; provide feedback on viewing analytics.

  • Maintain the acquisition and operation of all hardware and software used in instructional multimedia development; research and stay current with new technologies and trends in instructional media.

  • May manage staff assigned to various multimedia development assignments or projects.

NOTE: Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM

Bachelor’s degree and four years’ related experience required.

PREFERRED

  • Portfolio of videography and multimedia design work.

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of multimedia design and the production and post-production of instructional media technology, with ability to operate and use video, audio and photography equipment.

  • Experience producing education and training materials for learning in higher education with multimedia software (Adobe Creative Suite tools, Photoshop, Illustrator, as well as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Flash, After Effects, Camtasia, and teleprompter software or similar tools).- Experience using eLearning and instructional technology tools, strategies and resources (Articulate Storyline, Rise, Captivate).

  • Familiarity with learning management systems (Blackboard, Brightspace, Canvas, Moodle) and online courseware (Coursera, Udacity, Khan Academy).

  • Web skills such as HTML, CSS, and social media savvy along with programming skills are a plus.

  • Familiarity with assistive technologies and accessibility guidelines with understanding of website usability concepts and section 508 compliance standards for website design and video captioning to ensure accessibility to students with disabilities.

  • Knowledge of basic intellectual property, trademark and copyright laws and fair use practices for education.

  • Proactive and collaborative with strong interpersonal communication skills to work effectively as part of a team and as an individual contributor.

  • Effective organizational, time management and priority setting skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency using academic and administrative systems and databases, Microsoft Office programs, and remote/virtual meeting and collaboration tools (Office 365, MS Teams, Zoom, WebEx, Bootcamp).

  • Researches and identifies new multimedia platforms that advance College programs and initiatives

  • Works closely with management to understand and produce effective message elements

  • Creates and aligns various communication work products such as video, digital formats, layouts, graphics, web pages, and microsites to ensure consistency and effective messaging

  • Assesses, enhances and manages the user experience on digital platforms including social media

  • Collaborates with graphic designers, webmasters, and other information technology professionals to create comprehensive broadcast and multimedia communications

  • Procures required internal and external resources and services and manages their utilization

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary range is id $79,188 - $99,532. Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience and education.
